Maybe it is only for a certain length of time out? 3 months or something?

I booked a standard garden view but was upgraded to a deluxe pool view. What showed on my online reservation was the garden view. I did book by phone. The day of my reservation, however, I received an email with my reservation showing a deluxe pool view. There were no suites available for my platinum upgrade but I was thrilled to get the deluxe pool view.
