An American Idol Question?

I am not sure if this question has been answered or discussed on another thread but I have to ask. When people come to auditions and they sound horrible my question is don't they have friends and family?? Is it just to get on tv that they sing this way? I have not watched American Idol much but from what I have seen thus far there seems to be alot of bad singers. One girl came and sounded horrible. Simon was just awful to her. When she left she was crying with her mother. I thought to myself how could that mother let her daughter humiliate herself like that? As the mom she should never have let her daughter go on tv and do that. Maybe people don't care or maybe they think their kid has talent. All I know is I would never let my child be embarrassed in front of the country like that.

i dont know. i always wonder that. i always have wanted to go tryout for american idol but just to be as badly as possible. i do, and im going to pretend like i dont know that im bad. it. going. to. be. awesome.

The original screeners let the best & worst in. I know what you mean about the familys. I know I have told my DD's they were good singers when they asked me. 9 & 11. Some of the Mothers are just crazy

I would tell a friend if they did not sing well enough to try out for the show.But also they wouldn't have a pre show with all the good and bad singers if there were no bad ones trying out.I think that most of those people just want the 10 seconds in fame that comes from being on tv.

Yes, there are people there who know they can't sing, and sing bad just to get on TV.

There are as many as those hopefuls as there are singing hopefuls.

Like others have said, it's probably just to get on TV.

It's also a rating banaza for American Idol.

I know which one you are talking about & I too felt so bad for her. I don't think she was looking for 10 seconds of fame, she was just so crushed when the AI judges sent her packing. Her mother cried too! Of course, on the other hand, maybe her Mom did try to tell her but maybe she refused to believe it.

Anyone know how many people a day actually make it in to see the judges (simon, paula and randy)?

When 5000 folks show up, it's obvious they all can't audition. I'm guessing there are many "Pre" auditions going on where folks are allowed to get to audition for the trio. If this is the case, some that are truly bad, but don't realize it, probably really get their hopes up when passed through to the next round...only to be brought back down to earth by Simon.
