An American Asking a Question

That was one of my favourite things about our trip! Getting to chat to many different people! If it was a 5 minute queue or an hour wait (like Fantasmic!) We were always being asked where we from! We got asked if we were South African, Austrailan!! And once what part of the US we were from!!! I'm a Berkshire girl!!!

Everyone was so friendly and made the queue's go quicker! It's just such a nice ice-breaker! The next question we found was are you having a nice time? I think they loved to hear that we were having the time of our lives in their country!

The "are you near London?" question was actually yes about 1/2 hour on the train!

The people in Reading are queue chatters, well they are when I'm in line!!

So please don't be put off if you get one bad apple, most of really enjoy a chat in line!

I can't imagine anyone being offended by such a question We love chatting to people when we're away, even though we might not normally do it so much at home.

Personally I'm very happy with a quick chat in a queue or elevator that is necessarily going to be brief, but I might have more of a problem with someone chatting non-stop on a 9hr flight when I'm pretty much a captive audience Makes me think of 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' LOL!

I don't know anyone who would be offended by this question!!

We have had some great conversations waiting in line or for a show at WDW - and always really appreciate the interest shown in us.

We were waiting for Fantasmic to start - you know how long that is - and there was a large group - I think from Texas - and we had a real ball for two hours talking and laughing with this crowd! Some of the gents in the group asked my sons the rules of cricket ...... well that took up a lot of the time, and I am not sure if they weren't more confused after the explanation than before !

Yes, my accent has been mistaken for Australian, once as being from North Carolina and even German by some nice ladies from the Bronx!

I must add my two penny worth here. I'm English born and bred, and agree with my countrymen that whoever told you that we find it insulting is not speaking for all of us, however I have to disagree about the talking in line, I strike up conversations in supermarket lines, in the bus queue, in a lift, on the underground you name it.
I have had a couple of friends teens remark on this peculiar trait of mine when we've been out so maybe It is unusual, maybe I've got some American blood!! LOL

Seriously, I am really looking forward to meeting some good people from the US, heard alot about them and I like what I hear.

I have no problem with people asking where I'm from whatsoever! Like others I'm invariably asked if I'm Australian. I asked one guy why he thought that and he said Americans think all Brits speak like Hugh Grant (or BBC english as we call it!) so anyone with an 'alternative' English accent must be from somewhere else - usually Australia! I can see the skewed logic in this I suppose!

The other funny thing is that most Americans have NO idea where anywhere in the UK is apart from London, Edinburgh or Stratford-on Avon (or occasionally Stonehenge!). So it's quite amusing to try to explain where 'Wolverhampton' is! On one occasion we were trying to explain to this guy in a service station and DH said " It's near to Birmingham" which is England's second city" and the guy said "I thought that was Manchester" (a long running arguement between the two cities fot the uninitiated!!!) - it turns out he'd been to University in Manchester as he'd got family over here!!!!!

Personally I don't give a monkeys - born in Wiltshire and now live in Wovlerhampton - but I KNOW the Brummies would disagree!!!!!!
