Hi!

Our Disney Trip is still almost a year away, but I'm too excited! I wanted to go ahead and make a trip report!

Let me introduce our family!

First there's me, I'm Melisa the mom. I'm the one planning this whole vacation. I'm slightly obsessive, and a bit of a control freak, so I have to plan EVERYTHING. I'm probably putting to much pressure on myself to make this trip "perfect", because I suffer from Fibrous Dysplasia in one of my spinal vertebrate and will eventually be confined to a wheelchair. I want to be able to do this trip before I get too advanced and can't fully enjoy the time with my kids. I am already slightly limited due to pain in the muscles in my back from spinal myalgia that is caused by the Fibrous Dysplasia. I'm strange, I'm a nerd, I'm a book worm, I'm a Trekkie (Next Generation) I'm a closet gamer, and I have an odd sense of humor. I'm also honest to a fault, and people sometimes find me abrasive. But I have a good heart, I promise! I have never been to Disney World.

Next, we have my husband, Jeremy. We have been married for 12. Jeremy's a very laid back, go with the flow kind of guy. He's very happy rolling around on the floor or spinning around in circles while I plan this trip. (Don't go thinking he's crazy, he's doing the rolling and spinning with toddlers.) His only request is input on what we eat. He likes food. Jeremy has also never been to Disney World.

Next we have my mother, Barb. She's been my mother for my whole life. I came packaged that way. She's an interesting person. She works with magnets for a living, and I think they have scrambled her brain a bit. She's very flighty, and I think she may be suffering from senior onset ADD. She's also very happy to let me plan this whole trip, although she likes to look at pictures of EVERYTHING. She has been to Disney, for one day, 8 years ago.

On to the stars of this cast! The children.

Cordell is 8, but will be 9 when we go to Disney. He's a lot like his dad, he's very laid back. He's always been a very calm child. Very easy going and mellow. You have to tell him everything twice, but that stems from being male.

Annabelle, is 3, but will be 4 when we do to Disney. I really don't know how to describe Annabelle, without scaring anyone reading this, away from the idea of having children. She's a beautiful little girl! I can say that much...She's our "hell raiser", but that stems from being female. She has her sweet moments, but mostly she's a ball of attitude. She's a Tinkerbell fanatic. She is also a dress up enthusiast, and on most days she changes her outfit 20 times. Thanks to Walmart's Black Friday sale last year, she has a very extensive Disney dress up wardrobe. She's currently cavorting about in a Cinderella skirt and Tinkerbell shirt. Cinderbell!

And last but certainly not least, we have Nicholas. Little Nick is currently 23 months old, and will be 2 months shy of being 3 when we go to Disney World. Nick is a little love dove. He loves to cuddle, and is as sweet as sugar coated, honey dipped, molasses. He's also our little dare devil. He will climb on anything, and everything, if we let him, or if we turn our backs. He likes to help do things, and is glad to pitch in with anything you ask, or if you don't ask. He's thrown a lot of things away before their time.

That's it for the who's! Now on to the when's!

We live in the Ohio River Valley in West Virginia, and we are driving to Disney world. We are leaving on April the 19th 2013.We are taking 2 days for the drive down, instead of driving straight through. We think that's better than cooping the kids up for a 16 hour car trip. This way they get a little down time in the middle. We will be staying at Windsor Hills, in a townhouse called "Mickey's Townhouse". We will be staying for 7 nights. We are going to Magic Kingdom 2 days, and each of the other Disney parks one day each. We are taking a day off mid week to spend a day at the beach, for a little bit of a break for the kids. Doing 6 days straight in the parks would really make for some grumpy chumpies. Too much stimulation. Here's our exact itinerary for travel and park visits, told you I like to plan! Of course all times are guestimations...

ScheduleFinal-Copy_zps72de3b40.png

As of right now, we have not made any Advanced dining Reservations for the meals we will be eating in park. It's too early...We will be eating breakfast and dinner at the house on most days though.

Jeremy and I will be celebrating our 13th Anniversary at Magic Kingdom on the 26th! I am super excited about that! We never had a honeymoon, and have never really been able to do a whole lot on any anniversary because of money. This is going to be the best one ever!

A lot of people in our lives, think we are crazy for doing this trip, because of the cost. Yeah, it requires a lot of saving, and may not be the most financially responsible thing, but it's worth it to us considering my medical condition. Some things you can't put a price tag on, and being able to have one magical vacation with my kids, while I can still enjoy myself without restriction, is worth every penny.

I've got the Disney bug, and he bit me but good!

UPDATES!
Some new info and our dining are figured out! http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45623242&postcount=14

Ooooh! First one to post! Yippee!

:yay::yay::yay:

Just thought I'd join in and say hi! We'll be heading to WDW in April 2013, too, but it looks like we'll just miss you. Our dates are April 11th-20th this year. DH is an LCSW working with children, and his company just set up new restrictions stating that they need to take their vacation time during school breaks. I'll have to steal him away for two days before Spring Break starts, but that shouldn't upset them too much. I'm just nervous about battling the crowds! We usually go the week before or after break. Your dates should be perfect! My biggest hurdle now is convincing DH that we can fit this trip into our tight budget this year. DS is in college, and I only work part-time on the weekends ever since DD was born.

My DD will also be 4 when we travel, but it's not our first trip. I think this will be #11 or 12 for me, #7 for DH and #2 for DD! (DS won't be coming with us, as he'll be in the middle of his sophomore year at college, but he's been 9 times already!)

Can't wait to hear more about your planning. I've already worked out a lot of our ADRs and I can't make them for another five months!

:rotfl2:

The ADR's are a nightmare for me, because I can't make them yet. I'm over the top obsessed with planning. I have already made menus of what we will be eating for breakfast and dinner for the whole week. I don't know what we are having for dinner tomorrow, but I know we are having tacos on April 24th next year! :rotfl:

Oooops! I forgot to mention our favorite characters!

Me? I love Stitch, and Pascal (Rapunzal's chameleon), and Wall-E.

Jeremy likes Mater.

Mom (Barb) likes Marie, from the Aristocats. She's a cat nut...

Cordell really has a thing for Wall-E. He also likes Phineas and Ferb.

Annabelle has a deep love for Tinkerbell, I did mention that in my original post.

Nicholas, has a hardcore passion for Mater. He is at this moment reading a Mater book (looking at the pictures...) and holding a little stuffed Mater.

I wish I could make my ADR's...

I started second guessing myself again, and I'm reading the menus for the 5th time, trying to make sure I have the best fit.

Any suggestions?

Our last trip to WDW was April 2011. We'd booked AKV at 9 months out, so I had three months of obssessing over my ADRs. Adding to the stress was the fact that they were using the new online ADR system. Also, we were staying on rented DVC points for the first time and there were some glitches with the system not recognizing DVC reservation numbers, and not allowing people to book ADRs for 180 days +10 days out. In the end, everything went smoothly! :thumbsup2 I got all of the ADRs we wanted, within an hour of my original times. On our ADR day, I posted this as my Facebook status:

"I don't know what we're having for dinner tonight, but I know what we're having 180 days from now!"

I have all of our ADRs for this trip planned out already, but there are a few that I have "either ____or______" for. Plus, I was toying with the idea of completely changing the schedule, bumping up to DxDP, and adding two or three meals, but DH nixed that idea. (Last year, we went to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure...our first time venturing off of Disney property on a trip. I was going to skip that this trip since DS won't be with us, but DH says he still wants to go for the bigger coasters.)

Honestly, DH is still mostly refusing to even discuss this trip because he thinks it's financially irresponsible. I've got it all budgeted out, but he thinks it would be smarter to stash that money away for car repairs, an extra mortgage payment or two, etc. He's probably right, but I also have a 19-year-old, so I know how quickly they grow up. I want to spend this time with my daughter while she's still little and really sees the magic of Disney!

I'll be happy to share my ADRs with you or if you want to post your plans here, I can share our experiences with some of your choices. Can't wait to hear what you've got planned!

My husband somehow managed to either delete, or move to some obscure folder, my list of restaurants for our ADR's...

So back to the drawing board I go!

The only ones I can remember for sure, are: Tony's at MK, Rainforest Cafe at AK, and Biergarten at Epcot.

I'm having reservations about Tony's. A friend recommended it, but the reviews seem pretty negative.

Now, I have to find, or re-find, another restaurant at MK, and one at HS. I think we were doing a QS at HS.

Losing one of my notes, sucks...:rotfl2:

Ugh! How frustrating! I guess I'd be lucky...If that happened to me, I've been obssessing over the ADRs so much that I have them saved in two separate places online, saved on my iPhone in my Notes, and handwritten a few times!
:rotfl2:
I've been really going crazy because I'm still considering upgrading to DDxP just because of the freedom of having Le Cellier for dinner, CRT, and not having to pay out of pocket for any of the extra TS meals. Right now, I have 15 TS credits lined up for 9 nights - and that's with Le Cellier at lunch (only 1 TS credit) and no CRT! Then again, I know that there's NO WAY we can eat 3 TS meals a day. It's especially hard because DD3 doesn't eat by mouth (she was a 1 lb 2 oz preemie and eats via feeding tube) so it seems like a waste to have all of those credits that she won't use.
:confused3
I can't really comment on Tony's because we've neever eaten there. I haven't heard the best reviews of it either, and there are too many other places we like in MK. DH and DS really like Liberty Tree Tavern, DD loves Crystal Palace for the character interaction and we love the buffet there, and I'm planning on Be Our Guest, which will be open by then!
:thumbsup2
There's also so many good dinners in the MK hotels on the monorail line, like 'Ohana.

We aren't big fans of the TS at DHS, but we've only tried Sci-Fi Dine In, which was fun but not all that exciting, and hard to do with a toddler. This year we're trying a character breakfast at Hollywood & Vine (for the character interaction, not the buffet) and considered trying 50s Prime Time. We usually take the boat over to Beach Club from DHS and have dinner at Cape May Cafe.

Good luck planning!

I definitely find the Passporter the most useful. The past two trips, I've splurged for the deluxe version, because it's great for storing receipts, printed out reservation info, etc. I think it's the most thorough, and we refer to it often throughout our trips. The only problem is the 2013 versions don't usually come out til December, and there will be so many changes to Fantasyland...I'm not sure how much they'll have included. The Passporter website allows you to download and print out any updates since the book was published, and there are plenty of discount codes available for online, or you can usually find a good price on Amazon. For the kids, Birnbaum's WDW for KIDS is fun and has lots of pictures and brief descriptions of rides.

pixiedust:

Do you think it would be better to go ahead and get a copy of the 2012 now, or do I not really need it now and can wait til December to get the 2013?

We have had a few small changes to our trip! My brother Patrick (20) is going to go with us now, so we had to upgrade from a townhouse to a pool home in Windsor Hills.

Now that we have another driver, we are considering driving strait through instead of stopping for the night. We will leave earlier, and have another day at Disney if we do!

Our house is booked! We have also made the concrete decision to drive straight down, giving us another full day! Woo! I get to go to DTD now!

At this point, I realize I'm the only one paying attention to this, but I don't care.:thumbsup2

I FINALLY, have all our Disney dining figured out! YAY! Plus,I have a few changes to report. Since my brother will be joining us now, and we are driving straight down giving us and extra day, we are going to do a day where we do DTD in the morning, and then we are going to the beach in the evening. I have a friend who lives in Orlando and she told us about this great beach on the Gulf where you can often watch the dolphins in the light of the sunset! It sounds so awesome!

Joining in. We are going in March and I am in the middle of planning our ADR's. I still don't have a complete list of all the restaurants we want to have reservations for and the 180 days are coming quick.

New to disboards. We are going 4/20-4/27 & I've done a lot of planning too. Staying at AoA.princess:

The approach of that 180 day mark is scary isn't it? I keep reading all these things saying that you have got to be on top of it, you have to be early on the 180 day mark to get your ADR. It took me 5 months of reading menus and reviews to get our ADRs figured out. Now I get to breath a little for 3 months until I actually have to make the ADRs. That is unless my husband decides to start reading menus again and changes his mind about something. I have a feeling he may decide he wants Le Cellier instead of Coral Reef at Epcot.

Yay! Is this your first trip too? We were originally going to stay at AoA, then we discovered the off site options and went in that direction. Part of me still would like to stay on site, but I don't like the idea of us all living on top of each other for 8 days. Plus, with the issues with my back, a hotel room can get VERY uncomfortable. Then there's the pool. Once my mom found out she can have a pool in the back yard, I couldn't sell her on a hotel to save my soul. That woman LOVES to swim. Do you have kids? What ages?

4th. trip for me by first one I'm planning. I last went when I was 18. We should b ok @ AoA because there are only 4 of us & I don't plan on being there much. I've been working on dining. Are you doing any character meals?DD is 4 so we have to see all of the princesses.princess:

We're doing 3 character meals. My daughter will be 4 when we go, so Princesses are a must see for us too. We're doing Akerhus for lunch on our Epcot day. The character meal I'm most excited about is the Supercalafragalistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. I think my oldest is going to get a huge kick out of getting to have ice cream for breakfast. :rotfl:I wanted to do the character breakfast at Ohana, because I love Stitch, but I'll give up seeing my favorite character in order to feed my kids a horrible breakfast. It's Disney, gotta roll with it.

Are you park hopping or doing base? If your doing base, don't forget to take into consideration which days have EMH when planning your dining. My poor friend forgot all about EMH and had to redo her whole dining plan, after the 180 day mark. :crazy2:
