My older son's friend has just returned from 2 weeks at disney and he has been telling my son all about the rides. my son has never been on a upside down rollercoaster, 1. because of hight and 2. because of fear. he has riden gwazi etc so on his trip in 12 days time..... lol he is ready for the rides.... so however his friend has told him that everest goes backwards and upside down. This has totally made him nervous of ride....going backwards as well as upside down, someone please tell him what the ride does...??? i was under impression that it just goes backwards... :thumbsup2

I have never been on it but i don't think it goes upside down, just backwards.

I only think that because, to go upstide down it would have to have over the shoulder harnesses and it doesn't.

I havent been on it but Ive a seen a video of the ride and it doesnt go upside down. If it did it would have overhead restraints and it only has lap bars. Hope your son enjoys it, he is braver than I am!! :)

No inversions in Expedition Everest, just a thrilling backwards jaunt in the dark. To me, this ride is more thrilling and exciting than going upside down (very briefly) several times in Rock 'n Roller Coaster! I would encourage your son to try Big Thunder Mountain first, before tackling the dark coasters.
If he's apprehensive, just tell him to try it once; he'll probably love it!

Thanks for your reply's... christopher loves big thunder mountain, but he hasnt been on one that goes upside down. We went in 2004 and he wasnt quite ready yet and now he is saying that he is going on all of them except new one at bushh gardens... however when his friend said upside down and backwards in one sentance that rather confused him. i have looked on internet for videos of everest but couldnt find one. thanks for your reply he is here now reading them. he said he will go on it now...

There's at least one video of Everest on DisneyWorldTrivia.com in their multimedia section, you need to sign up to their forums to get access to that section though. If you go to youtube.com and do a search you can find videos of pretty much anything, sure I saw Everest vids on there last week.

Can anyone describe the backwards bit in the dark? Are there any big drops or is it more like the Mummy with lots of twists and turns?

The backwards bit on EE is considerably longer than the Mummy. No big drops but it is quite intense.

We decided not to take our 10yr old daughter on it before we tried it and it was a good decision. She wouldn't have liked the backwards bit at all.

Other than the backwards bit the ride is slightly more intense than Big Thunder mountain but not too bad.

The only thing that bothers me on coasters are the big drops, I love spinning, twisting, sharp turns etc. I'm just being put off the ride by the big drop coming out, how does it compare with BTMR, Space Mountain, Primeval Whirl or The Mummy (I've never done RNRC)?

The big drop looks scarey from the outside but isn't that bad when you're on it.

Perhaps steeper than BTMR but not as steep as Splash or the Mummy - cant compare with Space mountain as I dont go on that one.

Queenie if you don't like big drops don't sit at the front on the Kracken!! On our last trip DS didn't fancy any of the coasters but after a bit of bribery he tried the Hulk & we never looked back,he loves them all & can't wait to try Shiekra at BG & the others in the dark as we're doing HoS.I've sort of envisaged EE being very much like the Mummy & again DS thought that it was "awesome"
HTH SD :thumbsup2
