Amtrak to San Diego Zoo Question

I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency during our Disney stay next week and want to take my daughter to the San Diego zoo for a day. I know the drive is an hour and a half, Amtrak an hour. I was wondering if it is better to do Amtrak and how much is parking in Anaheim at Amtrak for the day? When we get to San Diego, is there a shuttle that goes to zoo or do we need to use public transportation and which is best? Thanks.

I would personally do the car for a day trip. By the time you figure in a train (either way) that may be off schedule, cab fare or public tranportation to the zoo - it is too much hassle and cost for a day trip. There are bus services (hotel to attraction door to door) but expect that bus to pick up folks from many other hotels.

The drive is easy, when we take this day trip we usually pick a weekend day (to take advantage of traffic situation). Parking at the zoo was free (hopefully still is!). If you get there early (park opening) there should not be a problem getting a convinient spot.
