Amtrak station in San Diego

Thanks guys! We will likely get there a day or so ahead of our cruise. It looks like there are plenty of places to stay and eat! I appreciate it!

If staying a day or two, I would probably recommend the Old Town area over the Gaslamp area. Lots to see with walking distance and you can take the trolley also. Then on the morning of the cruise train or taxi to the port.

Just a heads up, Amtrak out of San Diego does not have checked luggage, you are limited to two carry ons and one personal item per person with no option to even pay for additional luggage.

It depends on which Pacific Surfliner time you take. It pretty much alternates between checked bags and not checked bags each train. For the carry-ons, the dimensions come close to 28" bags.+

Great thread. If I do the 2019 WBPC I want to take the girls to Disneyland afterwards for a few days. I think the train would be fun and cheaper than a rental car. The baggage issue is the only thing I'll have to work out.

We dealt with that recently out of...not ANA but the next station over. And I was super freaked out about it (didn't know until we got there) until the agent came out from behind the counter, picked up my hard-sides, totally full-size, checked-size bag, and put it into their carryon sizer thing. It fit. Their carryon size is a bit different than airline carryon size...

We were looking at doing a family room from Texas. If you are allowed to take the luggage on the first part of the journey can they deny you at the crossover for the last 2 hours? If so what do you do?

Not when we looked, at least to go L.A., they were all unchecked bags.

Trains are very different. You carry your own baggage on board, but you can carry larger bags. They do have some trains with baggage cars, but a lot of the trains are designed to be commuter trains from San Diego to LA. Can't imagine that commute personally, but hey, there are people that actually do that.

For those considering this option, please do look closer. It's a wonderful trip on the train from San Diego to Anaheim. The Anaheim station is in the parking lot of Angel Stadium, just a few minutes from Disneyland. It's a very easy and hassle free way to get to Disneyland from the San Diego cruise terminal. The views along the coast are amazing.

When we looked the size limit was exactly the same as Jet Blue's carry on size.

If we had smaller suitcases we would have considered it.

After the WBPC 2017 cruise this year we checked 3 bags at the Amtrak station (downtown at the Santa Fe Depot) through to Los Angeles with no problems. We had booked Business Class service so that might have been part of it but we were able to check bags.

How Strange, we even called and asked and were told under absolutely no circumstances was it even a possibility to check bags to or from the Los Angeles area going to or from San Diego.

But the sizer at the station (not ANA but nearby) fit my true checked size roller bag.
