AMR and your trip?

I looked back through the posts for a couple of days, and I didn't see a discussion topic about AMR's filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

They are who we have our tickets booked through for our first trip to Disneyland in nearly 20 years. I know, I know, just believe the kindly worded and soothing e-mail they sent you that there should be no MAJOR disruptions in your plans. But...?

One thing I have noticed in the past is that the airlines tend to drop some of their smaller, regional airports during a reorganization. I would be extremely disappointed if we had to re-route our trip. I was elated to find that we could use our CC bonus points to fly out of Waco (ACT) and into John Wayne (SNA). Free parking at Waco and closer, smaller SNA all add up to more relaxed travel for me. I would cringe to have to go DFW to LAX R/T.

Does this American Airlines issue affect anyone else? Have you heard anything from your booked travel plans about possible re-routing?

BTW - we are traveling 02/23/2012 through 02/28/2012.

While I appreciate your concerns, there is really nothing about which you are concerned that could not happen at any time, bankruptcy or not. AA pulled out of my local airport about 3 years ago after providing service there for at least 20 years. We now drive about 4 hours to fly AA and expect to continue to do so for the forseeable future.

You obviously want to monitor your flights closely, so that if there is a change, you can react quickly.

You may want to also monitor options on other airlines. If you see a sale, it might be worth it to you to pay the fee to change your flights to lower your stress level. In all likelihood, late February will still be early days for the AMR bankruptcy and you will see few changes other than some schedule modifications by that time. -- Suzanne

I wouldn't worry too much.

If you hear AA speak to how they will reorganize. Not news commentators, AA themselves.

When AA mentions dropping routes or regions then be concerned and listen more closely. This could take months.
