Hi,
Received a letter recently from AMEX and it seems they are no longer offering CDW insurance to card holders. I have a Platinum charge card and included in the fee is travel cover and SLI for USA car hire, this is not changing but I will no longer be able to pay a small additional amount to have CDW. When I pointed out to an AMEX assistant that one was no use without the other he said a lot of people had said this and they were looking for a suitable alternative as new regulations have made this change neccessary but couldn't say if and when this would happen.

Hi Rob,
I'm not sure. In the letter they refer to "New statutory regulations for general insurance mediation" which have been introduced by the FSA and this means they can longer offer CDW. Not sure if this is because it's linked to a charge/credit card or if it applies to a "stand alone" travel insurance too.
If and when I get anymore info I'll let you know although if you didn't get the letter too you may be ok.

Mick.
