I was going to stay at the Holiday Inn Mercado on Universal blvd. Till I came by this hotel which was nicer, cheaper, and offered free breakfast to boot.
It looks like it is a pretty new hotel. It is the Amerisuites Orlando Convention Center. 8741 International Dr. Orlando, FL 32819 phone number 407-370-4721.
I called the hotel number and asked for the entertainment rate. They told me it would be 53 a night plus tax = $59.09 My dates I gave the reservationist were arriving may 23 and departing may 25 , 2004. Total for two nights tax included $118.18
I also asked for a second stay at the end of my trip. May 29 leaving the 30th. This reservation is a little tricky. he told me the price would be 130.00 a night( reportedly due to holiday) I said cant you get me the same rate you gave me for the other two days. He said let me check. About 5 minutes worth of waiting he came back and said the lowest rate I can give you is 59.99 plus tax =$67.85 not quite as cheap as the two previous nights . But it is still a good rate.
Each room provides micro, fridge, coffee pot, free breakfast ( up to 4 people per room) and is in walking distance of small grocery store.
To make a long store short. Too Late. I got a cheaper rate than I had at the other hotel I previously booked. And I got three breakfasts that I wont have to pay for.
I hope this posting will help someone looking for an affordable off-site hotel. PS This hotel is in a great area.
