Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

That is where I am trying to get back to. Let me know when you arrive and we can go for a drink somewhere...ha! (I'm not permanently there yet, but I do drop by from time to time.)
Not much reason for me to go to Saskatoon anymore. Both Aunts and Uncles that lived there or near there have passed. I had 10 cousins near there, but all but one have moved to either other Provinces or other countries. Just one cousin left living there.

There's a difference??
Yep. And in the US, you will have people fighting on both sides of that fence.

From the internets:
"Northern cornbread isn't very sweet and is made with fewer eggs and yellow cornmeal to achieve a crumbly texture. Southern-style cornbread can be made with white or yellow cornmeal, has a buttery finish and calls for more eggs, which produces a cakelike texture."

As an American Northerner, I agree. The disagreement has been argued for 300 years. Of course we in the North think we’re right. :rolleyes1;)::yes::

Well, if we really want to stir things up, we could discuss which version of clam chowder is best (New England, obviously!), or barbecue (Memphis, Kansas City, Texas, North or South Carolina, etc.), or who makes the best pizza (New York, Detroit, Chicago).

Everything in NY is better. See problem solved. :duck:🤣

That may be part of the citizenship test and perhaps even a requirement for a normal immigration application but many come as refugees or under family sponsorship programs, neither of which test language proficiency.

If they want to become a citizen they must prove their language skills.

Yes, I agreed with you about the citizenship test. It's not required simply to land as an immigrant or to enter as a refugee though. And once here, there is no requirement to take citizenship. Some never do, just like some never learn English or French.

Another food that is great in the U.S. is grits, but not a thing in Canada. I love them, but can’t get them here. I’ve enjoyed shrimp and grits at Epcot Food Festival. I’ve never heard of northern and southern corn bread, but I’ve probably had southern. It’s like eating cake with dinner. Yum.

How’s everyone’s day going in their respective countries. It’s a nice day in the US where I am. :-)
