Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

The population of Canada was very small prior to the welcome of the loyalists.
And those loyalists would have considered themselves British citizens, not American so you don't really have a point.

I'm American and I don't get this need to make it seem like Canada has US envy, wants to be the 51st state, is addicted to US media, etc. I don't call it humor. It's downright insulting. Geez...way to continue the stereotype that Americans are arrogant and think they're the be all end all of the world.

I said driving distance, coast to coast would be over 8500 Kms driving. Look at a map and tell me if Chatham, Ontario is in eastern, western or central Canada.
Well, there is a sign on the Trans Canada Highway with the junction of Highway 206 in Lorette, Manitoba that says that is the exact East-West center of Canada. While that is further east than I expected, it is still 1,500 km west of Chatham. So yes, if it is East of the Center of Canada, it is East.

I’m not arrogant, I was trying to make a historical point. The majority of tv shows/movies that Canadians watch are American made. America is considered the leader of the free world and the 51st state reference is a joke that started in the 1950’s. While majority in this thread have been kind about both of our countries, a few try to take a swing at American culture. There are just as many proud Canadians on this thread as Americans. The loyalists would consider themselves British, no arguments there. I just meant there was a major influx of population from the 13 colonies in 1783. It’s part of the reason when upper and lower Canada was created, treaties like the Quebec act (among others) were created since Great Britain feared further uprising. As I said before, the other comment was a joke as noted. I was referring to the fact that Hawaii is part of America. I didn’t know that type of pizza was created by a Greek-Canadian immigrant.

LOL. Who am I to argue with the Canadian Government about where the middle of the country is?
I think we should stop talking about maps. This discussion is honestly pointless. We all could learn more about each other’s country’s geography to be honest.

Been highly educational to me. Yes we could learn more about each other's geography.

Safeway is the third largest grocery store chain in Canada, but no locations in Quebec. How about Metro? https://www.metro.ca/en/flyerThey also advertise prices per pound.

I know about the lb, it’s odd, then when we get to the store and it’s in kilo, so bizarre, but it is what it is.

No, Quebec we are special, and not in a good way. On that list we have very very few. Metro is very rich for my blood, lol, great meat, but the most $$ store we have.

Do you guys have big box stores like BJ’s and Sam’s Club? That’s how some Americans save money on food.

So just because you found that flyer you think all grocery do the same. It gets real tiring listening you tell us how things are in Canada.

Especially when it’s brought up every.single.time. It’s almost like it’s trying to be used as some weird gotcha.

I said many not majority. When your country was founded post 1783, it was true and will be true for the majority in your country in 100 years or so when bloodlines in your country are further mixed.

Please stop mansplaining Canada to Canadians.

You literally posted wiki links.
Tone is difficult on a message board but you do come across that way at times.
Not trying to. I love history, particularly North American history. The wiki links were just to try to back up my point. I know they’re aren’t the best at times but it was just the quickest source I could find. I find the term mansplaining a condescending insult though.
