Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

I think a separate thread should be made for this topic to be honest. It may get political and I don’t want this thread to be closed.
Your thread, so I'll defer to your wishes and this shall be my last post on the matter. I have deleted the original content. I don't understand your sentiments in the slightest though - this is not an issue of political polarity, at least not in the Canadian mind-set. :confused3 It's not about law-and-order types v.s. bleeding hearts. All our hearts are bleeding over this, in one way or another.

No one owns a thread. Unless the mods say not to post something, feel free to continue.

What is he going to do, if he gets released and is allowed to stay in Canada? I cannot imagine he could get another driving job (could he even get a licence)?

To be fair, I didn’t read the article. Your post mentioned deportation/immigration however, and that’s why I thought it could be seen as political. That’s all. :-)

Immigration and deportation are political topics. I don’t want the thread derailed.

I’m also not sure how I feel about the deportation. I totally understand why people want him gone, but he admitted guilt right away and didn’t try to make excuses.

I don't remember what was reported at the time, but the posted article seems to suggest that the driver was making excuses. Not that he denied it, but made excuses as to why it happened.

Yeah, I don’t see how it could be political either. Maybe he’s a little hypersensitive considering where he’s located (not a dig at you Buzz)

The point still stands that you don‘t own the thread and cannot tell people what they are/aren’t allowed to post. You can report to moderators and they can tell us what we cannot post, but you don’t, in fact, “own” any thread.
🙄 I’m trying to keep the thread to its original point and within the guidelines. All I asked was for the article to have its own thread in a polite manner.

Immigration and deportation are automatically seen as political here. Like I said, I didn’t read the article. But the post was talking about deportation and immigration, so I assumed it had a political element. I only suggested that the article should have its own thread. This thread doesn’t really deal with news issues. It’s partly meant as an escape from the news cycle.

:sad1:

DELETED AT BUZZ'S REQUEST
By the way, I did go back and read the story. It is very sad. The only reason I asked was due to the chance the thread could devolve over thoughts on immigration law and that would have been seen as political (at least with an American view). I apologize for not looking at this through a Canadian lens (which is kind of hard since I’m American). I just wanted to explain. I do enjoy many of your posts. :-)

It wasn’t political, probably wouldn’t have turned political, and @ronandannette doesn't run that way anyway.
It had to do with immigration and deportation. I explained my point above.

No, it didn’t. In your eyes maybe, but not among those of us who were discussing it. Have you ever seen her post something political strictly to stir the pot? Have I?

This, on the other hand might get it shut, so I’m now 🤐

No I have not and I explained that to her in my previous post. Thank you for not discussing this further.

It has nothing to do with the topic of the thread, seemed like a reasonable request from Buzz to me.

All threads meander. Plus, Buzz was the one who brought politics to it.

In the end, he can make the request, but can’t control it…same as if one of us posted a thread.

Most things in this world are seen as political. That’s why I’m very careful on topics to talk about on this thread. That was a news article concerning an issue. This thread is about culture not news or laws.
