Does anybody know of any websites giving basic driving information, such as speed limits on different types of roads, road signs and good directions to attractions?

Obviously drinking and driving is not a good idea, but what is the legal limit in the USA? for example would it be alright to have one beer and drive?

It will be our first time driving in the US so any tips are appreciated :flower:

Speed limits tend to be lower than they are in the UK. They are pretty well marked, in my experience :)

The legal limit for driving and drinking is even less in USA than it is in the UK. I am one of these starnge people that won't drink at all when I am driving (this is just me!) so I'll let someone else say whether a pint is OK or not!

Meant to say - the Brit's Guide has an excellent section on Driving.

Me too :) Since I don't intend to do any driving I am free to enjoy a drink or two ;) but just wondered whether my other half was safe to have one beer whilst watching a show etc without being over the limit.

I have a copy of the brit's guide thanks, but I like to have as much information as possible (serial worrier!!)

LOL Piglet, I find this policy works well for me too :teeth:

The speed limit varies by road type and population of the city that it is running through. It is between 55mph and 70mph on the highways.

In terms of drinking and driving, the legal blood-alcohol limit in Florida is .08.

I got stopped by an army of Police a few weeks ago driving from the 192 towards Disney.

I had not been paying any attention to the speed limits and was doing 65 in a 45 limit. I was truly apologetic and said it was pointless arguing with him (the officer) as I was obviously in the wrong. He told me the fine was $180.00.

Fortunately for me, the production of an A3 size British Driving Licence seemed to fox him completely and he asked me was it in order. I showed him there were no endorsements.

He also asked what my job was and as a Civil Servant, I explained I worked for the Government.

At this point he wished me a safe journey and told me to observe future speed limits.

Phew !!!!

The next day we met friends from South Wales who had been stopped doing 115 mph driving from Miami to Orlando and he was fined $400.00.
