You all have been helpful in ways you can't even know....I read a bunch on here. One thing that I need some help with....

We are American's living in the UK for a couple of years for my husband's job. When I first started to plan this trip, we had no clue we would be here, and I was doing all my usual insurance stuff.....well, now that we are leaving from and returning here (UK), I would assume that my insurance needs to be as a "UK resident".

Has anyone dealt with anything similar, or does anyone have advice as to the best place to ask these type of questions? I don't have much of a clue about trip insurance here, except for the things that I've read from you all. There seems to be so many options when it comes to travel insurance....I'm not sure where to start!

Thoughts?

are you covered for medical when you are in the US?

that is VERY important when traveling to the US, but i don't know what your health insurance situation is - since i assume you're on relocation, you might have coverage through your husband's work...or you might not....

you must check this - it is crucial that you have medical coverage when you are traveling in the US...

Oh yes. We are covered medically through my husband's work, you are correct. That is not a concern.

We are traveling during hurricane season, and I am more worried about trip delays and such. I'm sorry!! I should have said that :goodvibes

Thanks!!

i'll leave it to Wayne and the Brits to provide regular trip insurance information -which company, what to buy, etc.

it shouldn't matter that you're americans - what matters is that you're traveling from the UK - and so if you want trip insurance, you need to be covered from the UK...

(we never get trip insurance - i've never been convinced that i'd really be covered in the case of delays, so it seems like just giving more money for nothing in return)...

When I worked abroad my personal travel was covered by my company's travel insurance, so you should check whether your husband's company does that. If not, there is a good website here called moneysavingexpert.com which will help you compare policies.

The main reason for insurance is the medical cover so if are covered for that its the delay/cancellation/loss you are looking for.
Check on here for a general search, problem is you don't know how good they are until you try claim.

I was stuck in Florida last year for an extra 4 days, with loss of wage, extra hotel, car rental, food etc it cost me around £1,000, Insurance(Insure & Go) would not pay out a penny.
This past year I have been with Marks & Spencer a very reputable insurer for £150 annual cover, their renewal was £250 so I have changed to Columbus this year who get good reviews with odd bad ones, cost this year £120.

Insurance is a minefield, check both annual cover and single trip cover, sometimes annual is cheaper.
Also consider going thru a cashback site, Topcashback have no annual fee and pay you upto 20% back http://www.topcashback.co.uk/cat/travel-insurance2/
