Is this fun to watch? How long is it? Not sure if it's something you just wander. In and out of or if you watch it for a period of time? We have DD8 and DD6 who both love to watch singers and weve never tried it despite several DW visits. However we also don't want a huge chunk of day taken up with it either?

We did it for the first time last year. It was really fun. It's a shame that more people don't come to it. I would guess that the theater wasn't even 1/4 full when we were there.

I want to say it was less than an hour for it. It's set up just like AI on tv. There are 3 judges and 3 singers.

The actual show is about 30 minutes, in addition to the few minutes you arrive before it starts. However, the finale show has more contestants and lasts longer. Once you are seated, you should plan to stay there until the show ends.

I really enjoy watching the American Idol Experience, and I especially enjoy the finale show.

We enjoy watching the show. Check your guide times for how many shows they have each day. As others have said it's only about 30min. It's a nice break and if your dd's like the tv show they will probably like this one as well.:)

As a contestant last year I can say it's definitely worth going to! My experience is somewhat different than most since I had a lot of 'behind the scenes' stuff but it was AWESOME! I was in the first show of the day with 2 other singers. There are 5 of those shows a day with the finale featuring the winners from each of those shows. The day shows are about 30 mins. If you can make it to a finale though, that's the show to catch! In my experience, the "host" was so much like Seacrest it was scary! And the talent at the end of the day is the best of the best that auditioned that day. I was told about 2000-3000 people audition a day, so to get to the finale is quite an accomplishment! The finale show is about an hour or less and is very entertaining. The best part and the reason you should stay for the whole show is that you vote for the winner! Their future is in your hands. I love how interactive this experience is for everyone! :goodvibes

As far as taking up a huge chunk of your day, the earlier shows last about 30 minutes. Not much longer than standing in a line for any other attraction where you stand in line, wait, and then enjoy the attraction. The finale show is a little longer because there are more participants.
It's a must see for me everytime I am at Hollywood Studios.. In fact, once I saw 2 shows AND the finale. Took about two hours out of my day total. I was still able to do Toy STory, RNR twice, TOT twice, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Little Mermaid, enjoy Arts of Animation, and The Great Movie Ride.
I chose not to do Backlot Tours and Beauty and the Beast, but had plenty of time to do so.
If the kids like entyertainment, music, group participation, and to get the feeling they are at an actual TV show, I say it's a no-brainer. But, of course, that's the great think about Disney. Everyone can make their own choices!
It is air conditioned also!

A lot would depend on whether or not you like the TV show. They try to give you the feel of the American Idol show. We almost always go to at least one of the shows, and if we get a chance, the finale show.

The American Idol Experience
25-minute shows
12:30, 1:30, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 & 7:00pm

The last show is the finale with the winners of the previous shows of the day. You can exit the theatre but I wouldn't recommend it - it's not like the Epcot entertainment where you can walk up, sample, and leave if you want. The Idol Experience is in an indoor theatre and you vote for the contestant you think is the best. It is like the original version of the show (a Randy Jackson, a Paula Abdul, and a Simon Cowell plus a very energetic host).

I'd recommend it for your kids since they like singers. And now you have the times for it so you can schedule at least one time. It's not a must-see for us but if we are there and it's seating, we go.

Just be aware that there are some days when there are fewer shows than others. I think it depends on how many people try out, not sure.
As I said before, this is a "must do" for me.

The finale is the best show to see but it will also be the most crowded. In the earlier shows there's only 3 contestants and the show lasts about 25 minutes, the finale is closer to 40 minutes and usually has at least 5 contestants. We try to see at least one of the earlier shows if not two to then see them again in the finale against the best competition of the day.As far as crowd size, the finale is usually pretty full to totally full but if you go to the previous show, usually the 6pm show it's very likely it'll be the emptiest show of the day as people opt to do the finale.
