DDs and I watched it. They are AI vets and said it was a bit boring, I'm a newbie and thought pretty much the same. I was surprised by the holding off on judging until 2 songs were sung and I DO NOT LIKE the "this round went to..." thing. No, speak to their merits or their faults and leave it at that, BUT I've seen all season that there is no true "judging", it's all about "that was beautiful", "baby", and "in it to win it". Ho. Hum. Critique could be truly fascinating, but it's nonexistent.
As far as the performances, I thought Scottie looked flatter than usual in the eyes and Lauren was bolder, but still cautious, probably b/c it HURTS to blow out a vocal chord. BTDT and it's ouchie. Like a charlie horse in your neck.
After both of their singles, I said I'd buy either one, but I'm a mom who used to read, "Guess How Much I Love You" to my kids and it reminded me of that (and if any of their future boyfriends want to serenade them with that, it's OK by me), and then anyone singin' to her mama gets my teary-eyed vote (reminded me of "Daddy's Hands").
I also am pretty sure that both of them have a very strong belief system (I know Scottie does, if you watch the youtube of his surprise on his visit home, he talks about it, AI edited that bit out), so they have a sense that a higher power is in control and what will be will be which led to a more drama-free night last night. No cutting looks or snarly-pants from them. They know they will be where they are supposed to. I do think that Lauren will be horribly disappointed, though, as any 16yo who made it that far would, esp after JLo's stupid remark and Scottie's gentlemanly deference to her with the judge's remarks. I hope Lauren wins just b/c I think she could benefit from the more close handling she would receive as opposed to Scottie who's just calm, cool, and collected.

DH likes Lauren best between the two of them.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Those are never good.
