I watched the first episode of Season 6 last night. I am sure there is editing to attract ratings. Do you think there are people that go on the show and really have no idea what to expect? Are there people that have never heard of American Idol or don't know how harsh the judges can be? I guess I am thinking that after being on the air this long and all the publicity, most people would know what they are stepping into. One last thought......do you think the really bad singers do it for attention?

I think some(mostly hot chicks) really believe they can sing, because their friends or lovers tell them they are great.

But to me some seem staged or fake. Last night the "biggest fan" and "juggling boy" seemed totally fake.

Sometimes....I do know that people really are convinced they can sing..but alas cannot.

In the case of Urban Amish boy--with his song....there is no way he did NOT know. As far as the harshness---sometimes tough love is necessary when someone is convinced they are good at something when they are truly not. When someone is really upset, I do notice that the judges are nicer (i.e. the person is crying). The judges are usually more harsh when the contestant gives them attitude IMHO.

Yes and I do think some of what they do is a bit embellished. They show the auditions--but at the end they did the Prince montage that was not shown....so at some point they do that as extra. The only ones I trust for their disappointed reactions are the ones who cry (and not just crying crocodile tears). All the ones that get pi$$y--are doing it b/c the camera is on IMHO.

I no longer laugh at the bad singers, because back at the start of AI, yes, the bad singers were bad singers who truly thought they could sing.

Now, there are people who know they can get on tv for 5 minutes. It is not amusing to me, to see someone really sound horrible, and then "pretend" to be devasted, because they really can sing after all!

The humor has gone out of it for me. William Hung was probably the last "bad" singer that truly made me laugh.

Even the judges expressions don't do anything for me, why do they looked shocked and horrified when they probably knew the person coming in was a "plant".

What really ruined it for me was last year, when a guy was inteviewed after his audition told his story. He was a ventriloquist, but didn't want it brought up. The producer's found out about it, and basically forced him to bring his doll into the audution. he didn't want to, but they said if he didn't, he wouldn't get in. So he agreed. He had a pretty good voice, but the judges didn't like his "gimmick" and he didn't make it through. If he were allowed to sing as a normal person, like he wanted to, I think he would of moved on.

So, now when I see the gimmicky people walk in, I don't laugh, because I know some of them are being forced to dress like that.

I don't think that it is possible for people who are trying to audition have never heard about , or seen, the show.

I think the people like "juggle boy" or "biggest fan" are just trying to be the next William Hung if you know what I mean.

Like with Hung, he got famous for, not his talent, but for his lack of talent. I honestly don't they "planted" these singers on the show. I think that it does add to the amusement, but for the people who watch the show to see a star born that factor does nothing for them.

If I were a judge I would be shocked to. They aren't trying to find the most spasmatic people in America like that show Regis hosted, they are tryihng to find the best singer.

I think the bad singers fall into one of three categories:

1) Attention seekers
2) People who have only sung along to the radio and have never recorded and heard themselves
3) Those that are tone-deaf and truly cannot tell the difference between themselves and a good singer

I think that juggling boy really thought they would put him on the show. I think his parents should be slapped for allowing him to audition. I think 'biggest fan' really thought she was something, but alas, she was not. Apparently Minneapolis is not the hotbed of vocal talent in the US or people here realize that American Idol isn't the way to get ahead in life :lmao: .

I'm starting to think that some of the really bad ones are actors...like the guy tonight who was the software guy from the Salt Lake area. :confused3

Actually, I have a feeling that "Biggest Fan" may actually be legit! She was at the American Idol concert I went to this summer in Chicago. I totally remember her. We were waiting before the show for some of the Idols to come out and sign autographs, and I was listening to her, she was very loud and animated with the stories she was telling. She was talking about her tattoo even. She acted exactly the same way she did on the show last night. So I am pretty sure that she is legit.

Some of them though? Just...scary. I am sure many of them are putting on an act. Remember Mary Guilbeaux from last season (blonde girl in red shirt). She is a comedian, and looks NOTHING like the "character" she played at auditions last year.

It's all about ratings sadly.......
