Hi!

My DD is only 17 months old, but I have started looking at the American Girl dolls. I came across the My Twinn dolls and they look like something along the same lines as the American Girl dolls with the different looks and outfits, plus you can pick features that match the child so they can look alike.

Which do you prefer? Is the quality the same?

Thanks,

Jess

My girls have both My Twinn and American Girl dolls.

They love to display their My Twinn dolls - but they never logged much play time. They are quite a bit bigger and bulkier than the AG dolls.

My kids spent much more time playing with the AG dolls. They each have one of the historical dolls. I love the stories and the period clothing and accessories to go with them.

You can somewhat personalize the AG dolls if you go with the girl of today. At least you can get close by choosing skin tone, hair and eye color similar to your DD.

I'd say the quality seems about the same - but then I think both companies have changed hands since we bought ours - so your mileage may vary. ;)

With the age of your DD have you looked at the Bitty Baby dolls from AG? My youngest LOVES hers and has spent MANY hours playing with her baby.

I know My Twinn has a baby doll too - but we don't have one so I can't help with a comparison there.

Just be prepared - once you're hooked it can be an expensive obsession!

I had a friend who looked into both. She recommend AG b/c it was quicker to get..and less expensive as well and the quality is excellent. She also likes the tie-in to literacy with the books.

Just orderd Josefina for DD5 and a bitty baby for DD3. My only disappointment is DD3 has brown hair/blue eyes--and that was not an option on the baby...I think it is on a my girl of today...but that will be for when she is older. We got Josefina b/c she is from New Mexico and hubby/daddy just finished an assignment there and we are going there for Christmas...so she thought it was neat that they had a doll from there. :).

two or three years ago dd wanted a American girl doll, a couple of her friends had them........we were shopping at wal-mart and saw the doll they have --it was blond and had blue eyes and was only 19.99 ! she decided she could have lots more outfits and stuff for the doll if she chose that one- she has been very happy.and I was proud that she learned a lesson in budgeting. she has other "collectable" quality china dolls and all the Christmas barbies since the year she was born!!! :confused3 we are running out of storage space on those!!!!!!!! good luck.

My DD has both (spoiled!). My mom and I ordered the Samantha AG doll complete with the school desk, several outfits, etc. when DD was only 1 YO then put it away for 7 years. We were enchanted with it and wanted her to have it. We figured that we'd spend the money on it before she was old enough to realize she wasn't getting many Christmas or birthday presents :). It was really hard to wait to give it to her, though. I wanted to play with it, too! She got her My Twinn doll for her 5th birthday. The morning of, we let her open one present, which just happened to be a birthday dress. She of course wanted to wear the dress immediately. When it was time to open presents that afternoon, she opened her Twinn doll, which just happened to be wearing the same dress. The look on her face was priceless! She gave this huge grin and said "It's ME!" She played with both dolls a lot over the years. Now she's 13 and still pulls out the AG dolls from time to time, but not the Twinn anymore.

We have a few AG dolls -
ordered a twinn and HATED It - enough to send it back and lose $25
it was big bulky and looked NOTHING like my dd (or the way it looked online when designed for that matter!)
My cousin ordered one in October and never got it til March also - so be careful with that!
really stunk since her 5 year old ONLY wanted that for x-mas - santa had to leave a note :(
I second the AG baby - my 1 year old got one last year (santa had to bring her something right ) and she LOVES it - kisses and hugs it, and puts it in the grocery cart to walk around the house!

Next friday we're going to American Girl Place in manhattan to celebrate dd's 6th birthday. She's more into AG, and now I'm starting dd2 out with a bitty baby. I think that there is more for the AG doll than the my twinn. My twinn is more of a novelty because it is supposed to look like your daughter, but often it doesn't and I'm not sure if I would spend that amount of money on a doll that my dd wouldn't really want anyway.

At 2 we got DD a bitty baby and she still is playing with it at 5, they hold up very well! Now she wants an Ag for the "older sister" of the bitty baby and is getting that for Christmas.

I got a My Twinn for my daughter for christmas and love the way it looks. It does take longer/cost more than the American Girl. It's also bigger (23" instead of 16"). I don't have any AG, though I've only heard good things about them.

My daughter received a Bitty Baby at age 2 from her Great Grandmother, she still plays with that doll all the time and she turns 5 in less than 2 weeks.

DD has a Twinn and several AG dolls -she loves them all. If you want a Twinn, order early as they take a great deal of time.

My DD6 got a bitty baby at 1 yr and it is still her most loved item. She also has the bitty baby twins and Samantha. For this Christmas she has asked for Elizabeth.I don't mind the price because she plays with them so often. :)

We have both too. The My Twinn will be a great keepsake as she really looks like DD did at that age. I wish I would have bought a baby as well (DD looked just like their baby Brooke and now she has been retired!).
AG will be nice keepsakes as well hopefully. DD never actually place with dolls much past age 3, she switched to stuffed animals and wants to own every Build A Bear animal made!
I would get the Bitty Baby to start with and see how she likes dolls. They appreciate the AG at an older age (with the history) than the My Twinn.

DD's 9 and 11, got Bitty Babies the Christmas they were almost 1 and 3. DD9 still plays with Bitty and her clothes, stroller, etc. At one time we had the cradles and changing table but those finally had to go. They each started on AG dolls when they were in kindergarten and have since gotten another each and will be getting Felicity and Elizabeth for Christmas. Both girls play with their dolls often and they are definitely prized possessions.

For a younger child, I would definitely say go with a Bitty Baby or the twins...they are high quality baby dolls and they are made to be played with.
As for My Twin, never had experience with them as DD's have never asked about them. Have fun! :flower:

My DD has a My Twinn and it is great! I am so glad that I got her one. She plays with her but also takes good care of her and displays her proudly in her room.

DD will be getting her first American Girl this Christmas so I can not compare the two just yet but I think she will really enjoy them both.

My eldest DD (now 7) has both and she rarely plays with the My Twinn but is always playing and dressing Samantha and reading all the books. My youngest DD (now 5) has had a Bitty Baby since she was 3 and half of her Christmas/Santa list is for stuff for the Bitty Baby. I love the AG dolls. So much so that I've ordered Marisol for my eldest DD because she's a dancer.
