I am looking for creative, practical and easy to continue ideas for storing AG and Bitty Baby dolls and clothes/accessories. We are starting to build a collection and clutter drives my husband crazy. Right now they are stored in plastic trashcans that are in a cabinet in our playroom. It is a mess and is difficult to find things. Any suggestions? What do you all do with yours? (We live in a very old house and closet space is very minimal).

DD's American Girl dolls and clothes are all in her bedroom. The dolls aren't put away when she's not playing. She has some doll furniture for them, so they are always in bed or sitting at a desk when DD is not playing with them. As for the clothing and accessories, I bought several baskets at Pottery Barn Kids for this stuff. All of the baskets can slide right under DD's bed when she's not using them.

I bought a couple of doll trunks from AC Moore for the dolls and some items and then I purchased a plain box, I guess it's kind of like a trunk, it's wooden and has a hinged lid, anyway, they slide right under the bed. We took the box and put material on the inside to line it and then painted the outside. I have heard some people say that they use different size hat boxes for the clothes and accesories, the hat boxes sit in the corner and you can stack them.

DD has doll bunk beds but all the dolls don't fit so some of them hang in her bed.
As for the clothes...we have a plastic bin that all the clothes are in however I like the second poster's link for how she does it...seems much more organized than mine  We have shoes, hair clips/ties, and other accessories in an american girl tote bag that my dd got from bath and body works. It's a mess too and hard to find the shoes. I hate clutter too so at least when she's done playing with it she packs it all back in the bin/bag and it all goes in the closet. All I see is dolls with mismatched outfits and shoes :rotfl:

For my daughters AG doll and bitty baby doll clothes I took a cheap three shelf bookcase, drilled holes in either side of each level and put in dowels to make a rod across. I made like a three tiered closet for the clothes. I even drilled holes closer to the front and top of each tier and put in a dowel and made curtains to be like the door of each tier. It matches her room decor and we put the shoes for each outfit on the shelf under the outfit.

I LOVE this idea!!! That is so awesome!! I would love to see a picture!

We bought the AG white doll storage cabinet. It was pricey but well worth the money. It looks like a normal piece of furniture and matched my daughter's decor so it was perfect. It holds a lot of stuff! I was saving to get my youngest dd one for her room but I think I really like the idea above. :thumbsup2

I really wanted the AG storage cabinet for my daughter, but the almost $300 price tag was off-putting, not to mention the shipping. And it never seemed to go on sale. Then I was at Target one day and saw something similar for $49 (now $55). It works extremely well and has a little stool and swing down mirror and shelf. It's called the "Our Generation Wooden Trunk.

I agree...any chance you can post a picture. My daughter is forever trying to find places to hang up all her clothes and I've been talking to dh telling him I want him to make a clothes rod for her so she can do this. But your idea sounds better than my cheap clothes rod idea :rotfl: I'd love to see a picture if you get a chance!

Great ideas everyone!! I also would like to see a picture of what you did.

Thanks Michelle...that's something my dh could make easily and just might work better than what I was thinking
