My 2 yr old loves her older sister's AG doll. She loves putting shoes on her, dressing her, etc.

Has anyone gotten an AG doll for their child at this age? I could get her a less expensive version from Target, but it won't look like her. My 2 yr old has red hair/blue eyes and I think that combo would be so cute to order from AG.

Also, I feel like it would be cheaper in the long run to get her the AG doll and she can have it forever, and not have to buy her one later on, on top of the cheaper one I get this year. The Target clothes might not fit the AG doll that she will get later on, either.

Opinions?

No way would I buy an AG doll for a toddler.

I'd go with a Bitty Baby instead. :)

My DD turns 3 on Wed & loves AG dolls. She got Bitty Baby for her 1st bday & is getting the Bitty Twins this year. I got her 2 girls but she keeps talking about the boy so I need to exchange it tonight.

We thought about getting Lanie & almost did.

I wouldn't get all the tiny accessories but I think the dolls are ok. She had experience playing with one so I think it is ok. Yes they are pricey but so what. If you can afford it & she'll love it, why not?

Depends on how your daughter treats her toys.

There is no way I would have got my daughter an AG doll at 2 because she would have trashed it. I waited until she was 8 and could handle the responsibility of a toy that expensive.

My best friend, who's daughter is the same age as mine, got her daughter a set of bitty twins when she turned 3 I think. They never made it to the next birthday.

If you think your daughter can take care of it though, then go for it.

No. I would wait until she is around 4. Get her a bitty baby or bitty twins instead. I can't see a 2 year old properly caring for one. My friend has a 2 year old and NO WAY would I ever get her something that expensive.

Some people would, I wouldn't and didn't. The real deal dolls are much too expensive for a 2 year old to take care of. I would get the bitty babies instead.

i would also go with the bitty baby. a former HS classmate of mine was given a couple of AG historical dolls for her 3 yo twins. one of the girls marked all over her doll with a sharpie, and it took my classmate forever to get it out! you just never know what little ones are going to do.

I would get the Target version. There is no way a 2 year old is going to be able to care for an AG so it lasts forever. We got many of DD's AG doll clothing at Target/Shopko/KMart, etc and the only issue we ever had with fitting was sometimes the arms were a little tight (I just snipped the end of the sleeve and they were fine). If you do go with an AG doll, get a Bitty Baby.

I would get her a Bitty Baby instead. If she enjoys combing her sister's doll's hair, then you can get one of the twins. Many people will buy the twins to keep one (usually one of the boys) and sell the other on eBay. Unfortunately, the twins don't come with red hair.

Can you buy a twin instead of both? I wish you could get one with red hair!

You can, if you call a store directly.

I would get the Twin (Babies don't have hair, and I suspect that would be an issue.) BOnus, there is a bunch of Twin stuff on AG's Cyber Monday sale.

Another option is the Gotz Maxi Muffins (I don't name these things!) are basically the same as the Twins. (Gotz made the original Ag, very high quality. Gotz bonus is that they can go through the washer. DD spilled hot chocolate all over hers- that was wonderful. She's had her Muffin since she was 2- so eight years. It still looks great.) Tuesday Morning sometimes has the Gotz dolls. (Their PRecious Day dolls are the same size as the regular AG)

No. The single Bitty Babies have no hair and the twins are only available as two dolls. The only AG boy dolls are the twins so many people buy the twins for the boy doll and sell the other twin on eBay.

ETA: Michelle may be right. There is something in the back of my brain that says you can buy a single twin but only at the store itself. You can call AG and find out.

You could either buy one twin on eBay or Craigslist or buy a pair and sell the other twin yourself. You can buy 2 girls, 2 boys or 1 of each. They can also have different colored skin and hair. I adore the dark skinned bitty girl with black hair and I tried to convince my DD to buy her a couple years ago but she got a blond haired girl instead. *sigh*.

I would go with bitty or the bitty twins for that age. they are perfect, and adorable dolls.

As a mom of 3, I would tell you to wait on the expensive doll. A 2 year old and a marker are weapons of mass destruction, lol!!

I know this may sound crazy but I got my dd Emily for her 2nd birthday and 2 years later it is in perfect condition and played with daily. It just depends on how your daughter treats her toys, just stress that the doll is very special and must be played gently with. My dd just turned 4 in Sept and she has a Bitty baby, Bitty twins (boy and girl), plus another twin boy we got at the AG store, 3 dolls (Emily, Elizabeth and a My American Girl) and for Christmas she is getting Felicity from my MIL and Lanie from Santa. My dd loves her dolls, dresses them every morning from their pj's to outfits and treats them very well. If your dd sees her older sister treating her dolls the same then I think she would probably follow her lead. Good Luck :)

A bitty baby is $45 and Twins are $95. A reg AG doll is $95, so by getting the twin (if it is the same price as a bb would save you $50). If you can afford it I say go for it. AG dolls hold their value and if they get messed up you can send it to the doll hospital and get it repaired. If she is used to playing with her siblings, then why not get her one of her own. I personally don't "get" the whole Bitty Baby craze, they look just like the Fisher Price Mommy dolls that you can buy for $15. My dd is 8 now and has 5 AG dolls and getting another for Christmas. They are all played with and she loves them. I don't regret purchasing any of them, and the Just Like You doll was her first AG doll and is still going strong after getting it when she was 4.

I know re: Bitty Baby dolls. If I get her one of those she cannot borrow her sister's AG doll clothing. I figure they can share if I get her the AG doll. Plus, I really want her doll to have red hair/ blue eyes and there isn't a Bitty Baby with that combo.

I think I'll get her one. Did someone say the Target shoes/clothes fits AG dolls?

Thanks to everyone for replying! :)

No, the Target shoes (Our Generation) do not fit AG dolls. The clothes are hit or miss...some do, some don't.

I prefer to buy clothes I know for sure will fit. :)
