I have American Fidelity Medical Flex acct. I have $258 that I need to use up by Dec 31 or whatever I don't use up I lose.

I use the mobil apps which is so nice to file claims. Is there any way to enter mileage through the app or do I have to mail it in?

I plan on going this week for a massage Therapy for my back pain but that's only $50 so it leaves me with $208. Only other stuff I need to buy is

$20 advil cold and sinus
$15 Robotussin(2) cough meds
$ 5 visine eye drops for allergies
$ 3 saline nasal spray for sinuses
$56 cutrecell 28x2

The above I have approval to get with Dr. rx for over the counter items. I will have $109 left what else can I or should I get that doesn't need Dr. approval?

We don't have a thermometer. I think its covered without dr. approval Anyone know of a good one? Are the ones your roll over the forehead any good?

Anything else?

for those of you who don't know what a flex acct is , is a program that's pre tax for medical. I have my job deduct $$ each month from my check . they take that money out without taxing it. The money I have them take out is for medical stuff only: Dr. visit co-pays, RX medicattions, any medical stuff and supplies and some over the counter meds if I get a Dr. not on his rx pad saying why the medication is needed example cough meds for a cold etc. Whatever money I don't use that I had them take from my paycheck if I don't use it I lose that money. In past years I've always used up my money in 6 months but this year my health has been so much better that's I have some left over. For next year I reduced it by $400 so Hoping 2017 my health is even better :)

I bought one last year and its still brand new

I was thinking more like band-aids, ace bandages, gauze pads, etc but not in an actual first aid kit. I wasn't sure if they were eligible so I just googled and found this list of things that are without an Rx
  1. Band-Aid Bandages or Flexible Fabric Adhesive Bandages
  2. SPF-15 and above Sunscreen
  3. Air-activated Heat Wraps
  4. Cooling Headache Pads
  5. Digital Thermometers
  6. First Aid Kits
  7. Contact Lens Solution
  8. Instant Cold Compresses
  9. Ankle Brace
  10. Reading Glasses

Thank you. I stocked up on band aids when my daughter had her ingrown nail procedure done 2 years ago.
Cooling headache pads I never heard of those. I also t sinus headaches so those might be good to try

Can you pre purchase massage sessions? Exercise equipment? Blood pressure monitor? Vitamins?
I believe the massage would have place before the end of the year. I already have a blood pressure monitor and vitamins would need a RX note from Dr. which probably wont

Check it fsastore.com. I'm pretty sure everything they sell qualifies. The most common OTC items that qualify without a prescription are sunblock and birth control.

Also, it you wear prescription glasses, consider a new pair. You can use your FSA for prescription sunglasses, too.

I purchased a portable nebulizer try to use up funds, but then DH needed a crown, so I returned it. I should've just kept it!

I went to Costco and bought 4 robotussin cough medicine( flex person said over 5 is considered stock piling), 2 Culturcel, 1 allegra

Robotussin x4= $63.96
Culturcel x2 = $59.98
Allegra X1 =32.??
Total with tax $169.23

BUT

When I got home I realize 2 of the meds rx were expired so I wont get reimbursed for $99.99 and I still need to get in for a massage therapy

so
$256.88
- 69.24
---------------
$187.64

Costco was also out of advil cold and sinus meds so I need to add that too

$187.64
-50.00 Massage therapy hopefully
-20.00 Advil cold and sinus
---------------------
$117.64

My sciatic nerve is acting up or I strained a muscle but I feel left lower back tight and left side of my butt feels tight and a pressure and a lil shooting pain depending how I move. Is a massage good for sciatic nerve . I think it would be good to loosen up that pressure I feel in my butt but I don't want to aggravate it more

my plan the last few year's (2 year?) has allowed 500 to roll over into the next year. Maybe yours has changed too?

I called today and asked. I was told no but I have until March to submit my receipt of items bought in 2016 or medical treatment for 2016

Sunblock! As long as it's over 30 SPF it's usually reimbursable. (Check your plan, of course). Sunblock is expensive - I stock up once a year!

I thought of one more - ICY HOT Tens Unit. I got mine at Walgreens. (It happend to be a BOGO sale so that was nice!)

And Glucosamine/Chondroiton supplements like Move Free. I've used my Medical Flex Spending account for both of these.

I went to Walmart and wanted to buy icy hot pad you stick on your body but I need a extra for it and my dr won't be back until Jan 3rd. My left side of my butt musvke is burning and feels tight sciatica nerve. Did you need arc or letter from you dr for icy hot tens machine to work?

If you get to a point where you're going to leave money in the account and thereby lose it, may I suggest buying things to donate to the local shelter?

Update: I ended up buying the icy hot tens machine .I bought one last year on amazon but didn't submit it since it was rom amazon. I bought the icy hot tens for my aughter. She's in sts and her squads give her issues. Plus Hubby said he can use it too. the one I have is super strong and I don't let her use it.

I also bought new cool/heat packs 2 saline nasal sprays for sinuses, Thermal heat patches for my back or Daughters muscles. I've been checking on my flex acc and they transferred the balance to 2017. Rep said I have until March 2017 to submit 2016 receipts. Hopefully I it all approved

I don't have american fidelity but I do have a FSA account and I had an issue with quite a bit of FSA money left that I had to spend before the end of the year too. 2016 was the first year I didn't max out my out of pocket with my insurance in years due to one particular medical condition which for whatever reason behaved nicely last year, lol. It got towards the end of the year and I had this money and I was dreading it. I thought I wouldn't find anything I need and would be basically wasting money but I found all kinds of things that I use regularly on the fsa online store (most of which I bought at amazon and walmart and submitted receipts for to save a few bucks). I've got another large FSA set up for this year but if I have another good year I will severely reduce it in 2018. Hope that happens!

Luckily I was able to use up the last of my money. I did all my mileage for the year $65. This year I will do my mileage form as I go. Last year at the last minute I had to go through all my records- not fun lol! I was told I could buy up to 5 of the same item so to be safe I only bought 4. I ended up buying 4 boxes of robotussin 2 pack of day and night, 2 boxes of culturcelle proabotics, 2-pack of Allegra and 1 box of Advil cold and sinus. I had rx's for all of those so it qualified. I'm stocked up for 2017 lol!
I usually max out by September/October but 2016 my health was better so I reduced mine by $400

This year my culturcelle was in sale $6 off so I bought 2 more boxes that I need for the year , 2 RX's and 3 Dr. visit between DD and I. I started low carving and the inflammation and stiff joints and muscles are almost all gone so that was my main problems that were causing me a lot of $$ with chiropractic and massage therapy $45 or $50 a visit.
