Anyone used the American Express card. A very nice girl in travel agents tried to talk me into one and although it does sound good, being a true Yorkie i wanna find out from folks who have used it.

Hi :wave2:
Do you mean the travellers cheque card?
I havnt used one, though i have heard that you can only find out your balance by going to an atm machine. and i'm sure you also get charged if you withdraw cash.
I'm sure someone will be along to give you all the info!! :thumbsup2

Hi there :wave2:

We used the Travellers cheque card at Easter.
It was great, works as a debit card and the only place we couldn't use it was at the crazy golf when we went to the beach

You can't find your balance at an ATM but you can either call (there's an international number) or go online to the American Express site :)

Yes, there's a fee to withdraw - about $2.50 I think - but, if you can get a card with 'free' dollars that will more than cover anything you need.
We got a $2000 card with $250 free from Thomas Cook :thumbsup2

We'd certainly use it again :yay:

Yes

We've used ours on the last couple of trips. Very handy to use.
Another way you can get your balance is if/when you shop at Super Target, the balance is printed on the bottom of the till receipt.

I am not convinced i like to check everyday how much money we have left so we know how much we can spend each day.

I set myself a budget for every day and, more or less, kept to it :thumbsup2

Some days I went over, others under :sunny:

Never realised that about SuperTarger Squitty :)

Hi
I found the Travellers cheque card very expensive to use in the ATM you get charged the withdraw fee of $2.50 by American Express then about $2.00 by the bank that operates the ATM. When I used it the withdraw limit was $440 per day.

Yes, there's also a charge from the bank - think the ones outside Publix were $1.50.
I still think it's worth it if you can get the 'free' dollars :thumbsup2

I intended to draw out cash and keep it in the safe but found the card so easy, and convenient, to use that I just kept a small amount of cash for tips etc :sunny:

Yes
It is good value with the free money it made the rate better but they only let you have it once.
So I will not use it again I will wire the money over into my US bank account next time. As the rate they offer without the free dollars is not that great.

Thanks alot for all the info give me somehing to think about for a while
