American Express Travel Insurance

Hi there

We have the American Express travel insurance which is included with our annual subscription to this card and I was wondering if someone can tell me what the rental car insurance covers, LOL I can't make head nor tail of it !!

Hi Sam.
Yeah I agree the Amex insurance does seem complicated.
My understading is that the basic cover you get with the card is what we know as SLI which is like our 3rd party cover and is for upto $1 million.You can also pay extra to get CDW which is similar to our fully comprehensive insurance and pays for any damage to the rental vehicle upto $50,000.You should have a "terms and conditions" booklet which you should carry with you and of course a certificate detailing the cover you have.
I have used the insurance several times and never had to show it to the hire company and I always use my Amex card for them to swipe for the security deposit so if there is ever any problems any charge will be on the Amex card and be up to them to sort as it's their insurance.(well thats the theory anyway..!!)
