Hi!

I'm a senior American Studies and Government double major at Skidmore College. I'm writing my senior thesis for American Studies on Disney's representation of American history through the American Adventure, in Epcot, and the Hall of Presidents in the Magic Kingdom. I want to know what people think of these attractions! So if any of you could take a few minutes and fill out a survey for me that would be very appreciated!

What did you especially like about the attraction?

Do you think you learned something from the presentation?

What didn’t you like about the attraction?

What do you think is the target audience for this attraction?

Did you find anything offensive about the attraction?

What would you like to see added or subtracted to the attraction?

Do you think the attraction was accurate?

Do you feel that the accuracy of the attraction is important?

We really like the Hall of Presidents. IT was just amazing to see all the presidents and how they acted so life like. Sorry but we missed the American adventure, but will see it this time.

What do you think is the target audience for this attraction? All.

Did you find anything offensive about the attraction? None what so ever.

What would you like to see added or subtracted to the attraction? More talk from the presidents.

Do you think the attraction was accurate? Very

Do you feel that the accuracy of the attraction is important? Of course

What were your first impressions of the Hall of Presidents/American Adventure? Obviously, even a history buff like myself, is first awed by the technology of the attractions. Beyond that, my first impression is that these are a really great way to interest people, esp. children, in our nation's history.

What did you especially like about the attraction? I love the basic presentation! It may seem simplistic, but there is a majesty to it.

Do you think you learned something from the presentation? I wouldn't say that I personally learned anything new, but I did have a younger sister with me who definitely did.

What didn’t you like about the attraction? To be honest, I can't think of anything.

What do you think is the target audience for this attraction? The target audience is broad if you look at simple demographics (age, sex, etc). I do think the purpose of both is to, obviously entertain, and in the process pique the interest of those who may not be history buffs.

Did you find anything offensive about the attraction? No.

What would you like to see added or subtracted to the attraction? Well, a few of the presidents, but I'll keep quiet on that.

Do you think the attraction was accurate? I believe it is mostly accurate.

Do you feel that the accuracy of the attraction is important? Overall accuracy is definitely important. We all grew up with legends and tall tales, though, and that is what garners interest. So, if you have to tell the "cherry tree" story yet again in order to do that, I won't complain.

Would you recommend this attraction to other Disney World guests? Definitely a must-see!!

Good luck on your thesis! :sunny:

What were your first impressions of the Hall of Presidents/American Adventure? When i was younger I thought they were boring and we skipped them. We went the the HOP for the first time in a while in 2002, I really enjoyed it, although my DH fell asleep!) The AA I saw for the first time last year, I wondered why I had always skipped this attraction! It was very patriotic and I left with a good feeling. I loved the animatronics too!

What were your first impressions of the Hall of Presidents/American Adventure?

First impression was that they were well done, moving and uplifting

What did you especially like about the attraction?

High entertainment value ,painless way for children to learn some history. I like that it represents some civil rights struggles(suffarage and slavery) I also like when they show the picture of Ryan White which became the "face" of the AIDS epidemic.

Do you think you learned something from the presentation?

No, I am fairly well versed on history at this superficial level.

What didn’t you like about the attraction?

nothing.

What do you think is the target audience for this attraction?

Americans, 5th grade and above

Did you find anything offensive about the attraction?

No

What would you like to see added or subtracted to the attraction?

I think the ending movie of AA should be updated every 5 or so years with new Americans who have died.

Do you think the attraction was accurate?

I think what they present is accurate, of course it is history on a superficial level, with no time for nuances.

Do you feel that the accuracy of the attraction is important?

Yes, although ultimately most people understand it is for entertainment.

Would you recommend this attraction to other Disney World guests?

Absolutely

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I think if we copied this over to the community board you would get many more responses. Also do you want to ask posters not to read other replies until after they post their own responses ? Do you want to cpnsider participation as implied consent ??? As a former professor i must ask, was this exempted from your University's IRB? I guess i am used to thesis that are much more formal !

Hi,

Thanks for your concern. I wasn't sure about which one was the community board, as you can tell I'll not very savvy with these forums. So if you could let me know that would be great. As for the methods here... It's not exactly a scientific survey. I just want to get a feel for what people think about the attractions I'm writing about. The argument of my thesis is that it's ok that Disney sugar-coats our history. So i want to see if other people seem to think so too. since i haven't gotten any negative feed back so far, i'd say tha tmost people agree. Thanks again.
