Amazon & UPS Access Point

My friend was tracking her package from Amazon and found the package was not delivered at first attempt. UPS delivered the package to a UPS access point, a wireless store close to her apartment. Now, she needs to get to the store to pick up her package.

Anyone has the same experience? It is the first time I heard of UPS Access Point and I don't think it was mentioned in Amazon site.
 
Just an update. My friend called Amazon. It was UPS who made the change. On the Amazon side, it is said UPS changed the site of delivery address as requested by the customer which was not true. Hope it is not something UPS is doing now--can't imagine my holiday orders.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if the UPS carrier was just too lazy to deliver it to her house, so lied about the change. This happened to me once; UPS never delivered a package because the carrier reported that we had moved. Total lie.

if your friend has Amazon Prime and selected the free 2 day shipping option she should contact Amazon about it; they have given me an extra month of Prime for missed 2 day delivery dates.
 
There is an other update. My friend called UPS and their answer is absurd. Her address is eligible for UPS Access and therefore the delivery. When ask who sign her up for UPS Access, they took her it was an automatic feature once you're eligible. Customer could visit their web page and go to "My Choice' to opt out. After the first delivery attempt?! It is great if it goes to the Access Point before back to the warehouse. I don't mind automatic sign up for a discount but this and without notice....not good customer service.

Have you notice the new thing with Amazon Prime?? Everything is still 2 days shipping but after the order is processed. Sometimes it takes a few days for an order to be processed. It's been happening to 1/3 of my orders last month or two. Miss the good old day.

That must be annoying.
My orders in the last few weeks have shipped quickly. I haven't noticed any odd delay in processing.

I had something similar happen with an Amazon order (two day Prime shipping) that was sent via USPS recently. The tracking info showed that it had been delivered and left in my mailbox. However, the shipment in question contained two 28-inch suitcases. They were definitely not in our mailbox or anywhere else on our property. Both suitcases finally showed up a couple of days later, and we just figured USPS lied about delivering them so they wouldn't get in trouble for not delivering by the two-day deadline.

This UPS Access sounds annoying. We haven't experienced that, but why would anyone pay UPS prices when they have to be inconvenienced to go pick up a package themselves if they didn't choose to do so on purpose?

I have Prime and because of late deliveries, have had my Prime membership extended 5 months in the current billing period. You just have to contact Amazon and ask when they miss guaranteed delivery dates.
