Amazon to increase Prime Membership fee to 119

I have ordered a few things lately from other online retailers. Both took WELL over a week to arrive. I don't have that kind of patience, LOL. One item was a grill accessory for my gas Weber grill from Lowes.com. I used Lowes because they do a 10% military discount. The item was $39.99. Well, I should have checked Amazon first...it was $20.99 and free 2 day shippping. Now I have to make a trip to Lowes to return the part I got from them. Annoying. I ordered the part from Amazon and had it long before the Lowes order arrived.

I have also begun buying a LOT of things on Amazon that I used to buy in drug stores because the prices are far lower through Amazon. I recently needed a new heated neck wrap. $12.99 at Walgreens. $7.94 on Amazon. No brainer.
I fully admit I've gotten really used to faster shipping times.

Every now and then when we order stuff from Walmart we'll choose site to store (since it's usually free) though shipping to our house isn't like it's snap your fingers it's there either and it gets to the point where we forget sometimes we ordered something because it wasn't there in a few days lol. My husband did site to store during Black Friday for a few stuff. Weeks later items came. Amazon has conditioned us quite well to normally quick arrival times of items bought.

Exactly.

Unless I need something right now, I order it from Amazon.

For me, not having to go to the store, especially Wal-Mart, is well worth $10 a month.

And it isn't for one thing. It is for numerous things throughout the year.
Heck, numerous things in a week sometimes. I keep my UPS driver busy. So much so my dog doesn’t even bark at her anymore.

I love amazon prime. I buy lots on amazon and use it for prime video, especially original programming like Bosch, music and free books via Kindle app on my phone. My granddaughter, in college, often uses it for items sent to her address. We have multiple email addresses as well as delivery addresses through Prime. Right now the price increase is of little consequence

We only use it for the free delivery, and the delivery has gotten bad lately with them contracting it out to random people. I make many purchases simply because I have the Prime, but if I drop it I wont buy as much through them (do they still have free delivery if an order is over a certain amount?) or wait until I have more items. My last order never showed up, but they did give me a full refund.

It’s $119 for an entire year, less than $10 a month for unlimited 2 day sometimes 1 day and/or 2 hour delivery. Plus unlimited photo storage, a free book a month, music, movies and TV shows as well as Prime Member prices/sales on things. Not to mention stellar customer service. I could go to Walmart (and I sometimes do) but having the luxury of not having to is well worth less than $10 a month for me.

Not sure where you live, but if I want 1 day delivery I have to drive 20 minutes to Whole Foods to pick it up myself. Never seen 2 hour here! I dont use the music movies or kindle or photo storage, so not really worth it for me anymore.

Maybe Amazon should have "tiers" of membership. For example, Tier 1--two day shipping and kindle free book; Tier 2 -- those items listed in Tier 1 PLUS streaming, etc. Only pay for those items/services that you use.

It's completely worth it to me. I order most EVERYTHING online with 80-90% of the stuff coming from Amazon. I also have an Amazon card that racks up rewards. I earned over $100 in rewards in the last 6-7 months. I get everything shipped to work since I hate stuff being left on my porch when I'm not home. It's so convenient. I hate going to the store. As a busy working mom I just don't have enough hours in the day. My family uses Amazon Prime TV and they love it. We also have Netflix and Hulu.

Amazon’s prices used to be cheaper but now almost always Walmart.com is cheaper, and it doesn’t take much to get to $35 for free shipping.

As an example, I was on Amazon looking for new OEM filters for our Dyson vacuum cleaner. After 9 years of using and washing filters, I figured it was time to just replace them.

Amazon had both OEM filters for over $50. Walmart's website had the same OEM filters for around $25, plus shipping. Even if you factor in shipping, its still going to be cheaper to order from Walmart.

I've also found that eBay sellers beat Amazon frequently on price. Some of them offer two day shipping, but I'll accept it taking a week for something to get here to save a bunch of money.

For us, there's no same day or two hour. And, since November, most orders that should be here in two days take 3, 4 or 5 days to get here. I haven't been too impressed with Amazon lately....

The things I buy on Amazon are always the cheapest price I can get. If I find something cheaper somewhere else I definitely won't buy on Amazon. You can definitely find things cheaper elsewhere online. I really despise going into stores so I shop 95% of the time online. Even my groceries.

I've lusted after a book for several years. Finally found it $10 cheaper on ebay.
It shipped from Amazon!

I just got around to downloading the music app from amazon. I have watched a couple movies so far and I order stuff every couple weeks.

I also hate shopping but if I can save a few dollars I will do it. For example, I wear a certain brand and style of underwear and it seems that they might be getting phased out. Not able to find them in stores easily. I ordered a pack from Kohls with some other items for store pick up and before the order was ready I got an email saying they were unavailable. the other day I googled them and they were between $22 and $25 for a 3 pack everywhere except penneys. So I looked on penneys site and they weren't available in store but I could get shipped to store for $3.99. Shipped to home was $5 more. I ordered them shipped to store and the cost for 2 packs was less than $40 with tax and shipping included. I work near a penneys so I will inconvenience myself in this case to save over $10.

Also wanted to add, one time I needed printer ink and didn't feel like going out looking for the right kind. I found it on amazon and it said same day shipping. Once I added it to the cart and submitted the order though, it changed to 2 day shipping. A minor inconvenience but of course I only go in search of ink when I need to actually print something. So I send my son to the library with it.

the Walmart is my town is so trashy, I would gladly pay $119/year not to have to go there
We have so many Walmarts in my area so I've found the ones that I don't like (majority of the time it's the people that go there as to why I don't like a particular location) and I'll avoid those particular Walmart locations if I can at all costs.

Try Walmart.com. So much cheaper than Amazon and delivery in two or three days with no fee.
It all depends on what you're purchasing really.

For instance the filters I need for my cat's water fountain Walmart (.com) has them for $14.19 for a 3 pack. Amazon has them for $6.99 for a 3 pack and in my area I can get that delivered same-day on Prime (if I purchase additional items listed as Same-Day for at least $35 total) or I can opt for normal 2-day shipping. Amazon also has them for $21.31 for a 9 pack.

Just an off the top of my head example.

Not everything is cheaper on Amazon we do price it out though.

I always price check Amazon with Walmart and Target and almost always Walmart wins. And now Walmart carries a lot of the natural brands which I use. Their prices were cheaper when I just ordered Mrs Meyers hand soap, Seventh Generation detergent and some supplements. It only takes a minute to price check and I always do. That’s why I haunt these budget boards - I’m very frugal!
