Amazon selling book for pedophiles

I did not believe it myself until I did a search on Amazon. The name of the book is The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure and it is offered on Kindle. I will not be using Amazon while this is being offered. I loved Amazon too. They were so good to order stuff but this is just wrong.

I was just reading blog post on it. Amazon has a pretty clear history of refusing to censor what is offered via their publishing platform.

I can't believe they are really selling something so horrible. I won't be buying anything from them either until they remove it. Why would they sell that in the first place??:sad2:

I am just in shock. I even went on the site and did a search to verify it myself and it is there. I contacted their customer service about it and they were very short with me. I hate it. I used to use Amazon at least once a month. Not anymore.

Is this book even legal?

I used to work in a comic book store, down the street from a Gay book store. The Gay book store was constantly getting raided and having their books yanked off the shelves because they violated one thing or another. Omaha Cat Dancer was one of them (the characters were all cartoon animals, and apparently it was "bestiality" for them to be having sex with each other, or something...).

Of course, we were able to sell many of the same books, without anyone noticing. Omaha Cat Dancer sat unmolested behind our counter for years. ;)

But I'm wondering how it would be legal for Amazon to sell books that advocate pedophilia? Isn't that just instructing people how to break the law?

OMG. I'm so mad I've already given them so much Christmas business in the last few weeks. No more! That's just SICK!

Bravo to Amazon!

No one has to read or purchase this book, or the Anarchist's cookbook, or any other book they do not want. That's the great thing about America!

Obviously I do not support the stance of the author of this book but fully support Amazon's stance on this. Censorship is a slippery slope and I do NOT want any store telling me what is appropriate.

I go back and forth on this issue.

I think you're quite right - censorship IS a slippery slope and leads to things like the Gay book store getting raided while the comic book shop can sell the exact same materials. I used to be totally against censorship in any form.

But my best friend works in the book industry, and she's pro-censorship. She acknowledges that there are abuses, but then she points to some piece of filth and says, "See? Censorship is a GOOD thing! Tell me I'm right!" And you know... it's hard to always say she's wrong.

I can get behind Omaha Cat Dancer - that's just smut with sexy half-human kittens. I don't even mind the Anarchist Cookbook. But how about a salacious little book full of pictures of people being tortured and murdered? Or a book instructing people on how to have "good" sex with children? Books like that make me want to reach for a lighter.

But book-burning is a sin!

I just don't know where to stand on this issue.

I am also against censorship but this is just wrong. Now I don't pretend to know the contents of the book. This is what was written on the site to describe the book. I can only assume it was written by the author "This is my attempt to make pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them, by establishing certian rules for these adults to follow. I hope to achieve this by appealing to the better nature of pedosexuals, with hope that their doing so will result in less hatred and perhaps liter sentences should they ever be caught."

This is not the place to get into a debate about freedom of speech but you can't yell "FIRE" in a movie theater.

But Amazon also sells books about women having sex with donkeys and apes. Or how to build bombs, or how to kill people.

Where has your outrage been this whole time? Oh that's right, people are only outraged when a talking head tells you to be.

Ugh.. I'm so used to doing business with them..:sad2:

Do you think if enough people complain they will reconsider?

I've emailed them and I sincerely hope everyone else who is as disgusted as I am contacts them somehow so they know just how many people they are affecting.

I am an avid reader and literature lover. I am very much against censorship but this is completely unacceptable on any level.

I suppose it's true that Amazon certainly has the right to sell this and other books of an equally disturbing nature. I guess I'm just wondering why they'd want to?
I understand it's a business, sales are sales, etc, but why isn't someone, somewhere sitting at a desk in that company saying, "You know, this really isn't appropriate and maybe we should draw the line and not offer this sort of thing for sale on our website." :confused3

Oh well. As was previously stated, it's their right to sell it, and our right to decide whether or not to continue to give them our business.

Did you just go through the "Contact Us" on their web site?

I couldn't actually find a "contact us" spot. I have no idea how I missed it but I did! I chalk it up to being extremely exhausted from a long day.

I searched "how to email amazon" and got it that way.

If you've loved Amazon before, then you've loved them while they have sold things like this. I worked there '99 to '02 and we sold stuff like that then AND dealt with backlash from people like most on this thread.

They are a seller of items. This is an item. If you wrote a book about something would you want them to say "nope, not going to sell it, I don't agree with the content"? No.

You loved them while they were selling things like this, and you can still love them now.

It doesn't sound like it *advocates* anything. It sounds like a very poorly written probably self-published thing that (from the description) tells people to not be obvious. Which I would think people doing this would know already (and by writing a book any secrets are given out to everyone, including officers of the law).

I think it's nasty that people like that exist, and I think they are showing their obvious lack of intelligence by writing books like this, but it's waaaaay too slippery of a slope. Amazon has always taken a very strong stance against censorship, and as difficult as it was to take calls from rabid people about it (while NO ONE was buying the books people were in a lather about), and as simple it would have made my life if they'd caved, I do support their not wanting to cave in on the stance.

Amazon also has protected peoples' order information recently, along with their salestax stuff with NC, but I don't see anyone yelling THAT from the rooftops. NC wanted to know what their residents were ordering so they could charge salestax on it, and Amazon said "no you cannot have that information".

To me, it's two sides of the same coin. They will protect this dingbat's right to sell his nonsense, and they will protect the ordering history of their customers.

I wonder just WHO went rooting around in the depths of amazon, to find this, and WHY they did it? Right as the holiday buying seasons is swinging into high gear? As amazon is doing SO well, is starting to truly dominate in their fields? I wonder who and why...why did someone go looking around for such content?

One of the reasons I do NOT shop at walmart is BECAUSE they censor what they sell. So while the power of social networking and some other phrase that I just heard about the power of the people on the internet is actually MUCH scarier, er, stronger, than it was in '02, and while I have a feeling that their stance will end up changing, I would rather support someone that does NOT censor (and that protects customer info) than support someone that does censor.

And everyone's just shooting themselves in the foot by boycotting the best "seller of things" out there!
