Amazon Return Policy

Having seen a few discussions on various stores' return policies, I had to share my experience with Amazon this morning.

I'm frequently purchase from Amazon. I've probably spent close to $300 with them since last month. However, I don't recall ever returning an item to Amazon (perhaps once a few years ago, but not recently).

I got my sister a calendar that ended up being a duplicate since she'd already bought one for herself. She said she didn't have a place to put it in her home or office and asked me if I wanted it back. I got two calendars for Christmas, so I didn't need it. She said that I should just pull up my Amazon account and follow the instruction to return it. I agreed, and told her I'd put the money toward an extra birthday gift for her next week.

So I went through the steps of selecting which item I wanted to return. I was expecting to print out a return label, but instead, this statement popped up: Because you are a valued customer, there is no need to return this item. We will refund your payment (including shipping) and you may keep the item on us.

The total, with shipping, came to $15.18. I'm assuming that since it was under $20 and I don't usually return things, it's cheaper for them to just give me back the money. I was pleasantly surprised, and glad I don't have to ship the calendar back. I thought it was a nice gesture, and one that will keep me shopping with them. I do not expect this to happen again if I need to return an item. But, it was nice just this once!

Their customer service is fantastic! I bought two items from third party sellers that were not as described. I wanted to return them, and got no reply fom the sllers. Amazon refunded both purchases and told me keep them. One was sort of expensive, too! I am very pleased with their service - if something is wrong, they fix it. Returns are a pain since you have to box it up and send it back but they make it easy. I love Amazon for lots of reasons, but their customer service is tops!

Wow, that was a nice surprise! I have only had to return one product before, an item in a glass jar which arrived cracked with the contents all over. It was not shipped directly from Amazon and I had to print out the return label, etc like you mentioned. Too bad your item was only a calendar and not something really cool that they let you keep! Lol!

My mother bought me an expensive Bosch coffee maker this Christmas from an Amazon seller. When it came, it was used (item description clearly stated NEW). I don't know if was returned by someone who used it and returned it but there was water in the resevoir and the box was torn. I have contacted the seller but not heard back. I am wondering how to handle this-how did you guys contact Amazon to let them know there was an issue? I am a bit lost on what to do now...I checked and this seller (official Amazon seller) does have some negative feedback (about 5% negative). I'll be really sick if my mom is out this amount of $$$ for no present.

Love amazon! We bought some toys for our girls and then found them cheaper in stores closer to Christmas. We returned them no problem. It's great they have such wonderful customer service.

Great! Lucky you. I had to return a duplicated set of books this week. Amazon did have me print a UPS label and I'll be charged $3.99 for return shipping.

The last time I returned something I get free return shipping...I can't remember what I returned or why, but that was nice.

Amazon will usually pay the shipping for damaged, defective, or incorrect products (things you could not control). Items that you don't need or decide you don't want you need to pay shipping to return.

In the past, Disneystore had me keep a couple of items after I called and said that I (a) got a completely wrong item, their fault and (b) when I said an item was defective (would not light up). Both times, I was very surprised.

The wrong item was so odd, I knew no one who could use it, but I did donate it. (odd Disney Minnie flat shoes, size 11 womens, I ordered sheets!)

Lucky OP. I have to return a book and a power cord due to duplication and not needed afterall and Amazon wants to charge me $9.34 to return $17 worth of items. I'll pay the shipping myself. Or I may just keep them afterall. I have until January 31st to decide.

I was going to return a book DD17 got two copies of for Christmas, and after reading this, I went ahead and went through the process, and yup, they told me to go ahead and keep it and they'd refund my $10.38. I suspect there's a $ amount at which it isn't worth it to them to process the return.

We'll donate it to the library book sale next week.

Amazon has some of the best customer service out there (not just opinion but there have been rankings, etc. to state this). They have been a great company to purchase from with year after year.

I ordered a book for my son for Christmas and he already had it. I figured it wouldn't be worth the shipping cost to return it but thanks to you guys I went through the return process on Amazon and I don't have to send it back! So now I get a refund and don't have to do anything else. This is why I love the Budget board!

Thanks for the info! I have an item to return but was worried about postage back since it is duplicate. Glad to see it isn't that bad...

That's very cool, OP. Lucky you!

Go through your account to contact the seller through official channels. Do NOT just email them directly. If you are still not helped, contact a-to-z claims, and amazon will get involved.

In the Returns area, there's a whole section dedicated to giving you the exact amount you'll be charged for the return, depending on what you're sending back.

I ordered a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, and when it came it had a paint defect on the side. Amazon paid for the return postage and immediately mailed me another one. I was really happy and it was no hassle at all to return it.

I hesitated about returning it because I thought I'd have to pay a fortune in postage - so glad I looked into the return process. Amazon rocks.

We still have not heard from the seller of the Coffee Maker. :headache: How ong do you have to wait before you get Amazon involved with an A to Z claim, anyone know?

Here is the info you need about the A to Z claims with Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_537868_when?nodeId=200783670#when

If you receive your item and it is damaged, defective, or materially different, you must contact the seller within fourteen (14) days of receipt to request return information.

Please allow three business days to give your seller a chance to address the issue. You can submit a Guarantee claim if the seller does not respond or if the issue is not addressed to your satisfaction.

They have the best customer service and it's why I continue to buy just about anything and everything I can there. I have returned a few things and I've called them and every time I have been more than happy.

Once in awhile you have to pay return postage but for the most part you don't.
