Amazon Prime membership price increase to $99

Prime is going up $20? Big deal to me. Mine renews next month at the old rate so I am good. I stream a ton of shows and movies and borrow books for my Kindle. Plus I do order a lot of stuff from Amazon. Everything from shoes, books, movies, beauty items...ect. I find Prime well worth it.

All my stuff ships either regular Fedex or UPS, no Smartpost here. I did have one item come through the USPS but I still got it in the two day timeframe. Ordered on Thursday and it was in my mailbox on Saturday. Works for me.

You mean "with the exception of one smartpost delivery, all my stuff ships FedEx or UPS."

You're lucky. Virtually everyone I'd got this year has come smartpost, rarely does it arrive on the second day.

In any case, I'd noticed some irregularities between looking online (I never used the amazon app with cookie retention) and when I'd use my laptop when it came to pricing... as it turns out, I wasn't mistaken. Amazon has been scamming me (and you) for awhile.

Lawsuits should be turning class action soon:

I won't be renewing. I also just signed up for the free year of shoprunner.com .

Call me crazy but being lied to for the past 5 years pisses me off a lot more than the $20 increase.

I'm not upset at all, I've had Prime for 7 years and it's still a bargain. Look at it this way. It used to cost $6.58 a month and now it's $8.25.
X-mas/birthdays alone saves me more than its cost since both our families are spread out over multiple states and I don't have to pack and stand in line to ship. Plus I buy books, food, sporting goods, ect...for us. The value of the streaming service is increasing as well since Netflix has been changing what they offer. My boys have game systems in their rooms and stream both Netflix and Prime. I have not seen a slow down in shipping either. My stuff is showing up in two days still if you don't count Sundays which I don't. While it might not work for some it's still a valuable service for us.

No that is not what I meant. The one USPS delivery was NOT a smartpost delivery. It had been sent Priority from a fulfillment center in AZ. Since I live in NM I got it within the two day time frame.

Interesting. I'd not heard of Amazon shipping prime orders via priority mail before.

I wonder what their system is for providing people with the $79 renewal vs the $99?

Mine is set to renew in July... my email, and account management page, say my renewal will be $79 this year. It will go up to $99 July 2015.

Either way, I'm happy. When they were reporting a possible $40 hike, I was a little upset at such a big hike but $20 isn't so bad (and clearly a well-calculated PR move, ha).

I utilize the Prime shipping often on small items I wouldn't normally want to wait for the $25 worth of items and for items too expensive to pay for shipping for, like the 2 types of hamster bedding I buy; Shipped free, it beats Petco by a couple dollars each, tax included. Adds up over time. Plus the Prime video is a nice bonus. Some redundancy with Netflix, but still a good value.
