Amazon Kindle Users -- Can I organize my books?

GREAT Mothers Day present today -- a Kindle! I've been wanting one forever! My considerate family presented it to me already "loaded" with a Bible and two novels, and I already "bought" five novels, which are available for free this month.

Here's my question: On the computer, my iPod, etc., I like to keep my files organized so they're easy to navigate. Already -- with only eight books -- my Kindle appears haphazard and random. I don't want to eventually have hundreds of books loaded and have to flip through them all to find what I want.

Is there a way to organize them? By author? By genre?

Any help would be appreciated!

Kindle owners have been asking for folders/files since Kindle 1. No real way to organize at this time..I take books off my kindle after I read them to ease clutter, however they are still available to me on my amazon kindle account online.

Enjoy your new Kindle. You might enjoy this site, but beware of the accessories forum, that one can get expensive...LOL.

No, unfortunately. I remove books from my K2 after I read them, and the search function is quite good about pulling up specific words like title or author. Just start typing using the keypad and select 'search my items' when on the home screen. Not having folders is one of the few gripes I have with my K2. Careful on the kindleboards though, that's how I ended up with my decalgirl skin, oberon case, borsa bella bags, and trendy digital waterproof case. They're enablers there.

What a great Mother's Day present - I know you will love it.

As you have already found out, this lack of folders is a teensy aggravation in the big picture but it is annoying in the extreme. I, too, delete the books I have read once I have read them. I'm happy to let Amazon archive them for me. I don't put anything on my Kindle that doesn't come from Amazon, though, so I don't know how you will feel about non-Amazon books being deleted after you read them. Of course, most of them would probably be free, I suppose, from Project Gutenburg, etc. so that might be an option - make yourself delete something if it was free and can be easily found again. The beauty of the Kindle is that everything will be there waiting for you even though it's not in your Kindle memory (although 1500 books is plenty for me to store in my memory!)

Again, welcome to the Kindle Cub!! (I refuse to use a K in Klub although that is the preferred spelling on the Kindle boards - it irritates me to no end to use a K for a C in ANY word, so I am boycotting its use.)
