Amaryllis question

I have allways had good luck with them, but this time, I forgot to put it in the closet and let it go dormant soon enough. When we moved into the new house, decided to get it out, even though it had not been dormant for more than 2 months. Now its stem is nice and green, but it does not seem to be starting to grow at all. Any hints?

Does the stem have a bud at it's tip? I've had some that failed to thrive that way, the bud never bloomed, and stayed close to the bulb. Eventually the plant sent out leaves, not another bud that year. It wasn't an everlasting thing, the plant did bloom in later years.

I hasn't even sprouted a leaf or a bud yet. Usually that happens as soon as I start watering it, but it has been about 3 weeks now. I did notice what looked like a tiny tip starting to peak out of the top today. If it really is sprouting, it should be obvious by tomorrow.

So, how's it going? I did have a bulb rot on me one time, that was truly a "failure to thrive!"

I had given a budding one to mom last week, and she took it out in sunshine one day in Cape May and told me she thinks she could see it grow! We haven't seen sunshine in quite awhile.

Sorry I didn't get back to this. It now has two leaves that are about 6 inches tall. There IS a fatter portion down farther in the stem, so perhaps it will bloom after all. I have had this happen before where the flower is very small. I suspect I wasn't too religious about fertilizing it last summer and fall because of the move.
