For those who have tried both, what is the best breakfast? My girls are older and really do not care about visiting with characters. But I keep reading about how great the breakfasts are at both places at the resort. If we only did one breakfast out, which one would you recommend?

I would go with the character breakfast (even though it's somewhat pricey).

When we went last November, we LOVED Ama Ama for dinner but thought it was just okay for breakfast. Don't get me wrong, the food quality was good, but IMO, not that much better than the character buffet at Makahiki and the buffet has so much more selection (and we thought the quality of the food at the Makahiki breakfast was above average for a Disney character breakfast and we've been to most of them at WDW and DLR).

The biggest advantage Ama Ama has over Makahiki for breakfast is that it's quiteter and more relaxing (I always find full-service restaurants to be more relaxing than buffets). But Makahiki is more fun and exciting and the selection is just so much better (without sacrificing much quality). Even if you're not into characters, I think Makahiki is the better choice for breakfast, even if it will likely cost you somewhat more than Ama Ama.

I would go with Ama Ama. The breakfast was good and beautifully presented, the setting looking over the ocean is amazing, peaceful and relaxing. It was raining one morning and we had a rainbow to enjoy with our breakfast! We ate there several times for breakfast during our stay.

I agree with the above. Loved Ama Ama breakfast. The character breakfast was fun but we did it for the experience. If we go back, I would skip it.

As usual, a varied response to a question! I preferred Makahiki for the same reasons as others have mentioned - overall better selection. We have younger kids so that helps too. Each time we went to Ama Ama the service was very slow and were not wowed by the food. They food was solid, don't get me wrong, but thought there would be a little more to it. The view at Ama Ama is definitely spectacular and it is much more quiet as others have said. It really depends what your group is looking for.

The variety at Makahiki was great but it was just too loud and crowded. So it just depends on what kind of experience you are hoping for :)...I don't mind slower service at Ama Ama. It's all about slowing down, relaxing and enjoying your vacation.
