FYI - We are at Aulani right now and had breakfast at Ama Ama (incredible, beautiful view, by the way). Our waitress told us that the entire dinner menu was overhauled and will be changing over later this week (I believe on Thursday). She said that she didn't think the dinner options were very good before and they are going to be MUCH better now. She was very emphatic that the change is a big improvement. We will see - have dinner there on Sunday night before we leave. Just thought I'd share, in case this info isn't out there yet.

I only ever dined in Ama Ama for lunch which I loved, but change is always good especially if its for the better. I hope they make changes to the Makahiki Buffet too, as this for us was the biggest let down. We felt either the price needs to come down or the food choice/quality needs to go up. Thank you for sharing and enjoy the rest of your time at beautiful Aulani.

that might be good news we will be there in three weeks and last time we were there we felt the same way the prices need to come down a little or the quality needed to rise to reflect the price

I hope the OP can get a photo of the new menu. We ate there in October and our meals were very good. But it still seemed pricey for two fish dinners, even if they were delightfully prepared.

I will for sure get a menu pic on Sunday and maybe before if I'm walking by and they have it available. :goodvibes (not sure if I'll be able to post on Sunday, as we leave that night, but I will as soon as I can)

For what it's worth, I asked our waitress if she had any particular recommendations with the new menu and she said the snapper was fantastic and I think she said something about pork being good? Sorry, I can't remember for sure. She said there are lots of good choices now, though, and it's "not so fishy" (I mentioned to her that I don't eat seafood).

I'll post when I have something more.

In September, we had two great breakfast and two great dinners at Ama Ama. Dinner was timed (accidentally) perfectly with sunset so it was a great experience with great wait staff.

That being said, the price was a shocker! Just throw in a little ole salad with the meal and the price might be a bit more tolerable!

Agree with the above poster about Maikiki. The food was very mediocre for what we paid.

OP, would looking forward to hear what you think of their new menu.

Walked by there tonight after dinner at Makahiki and took pictures of what I assume is the new Ama Ama dinner menu:

Couple more days until we eat there, so I can't really say more, but thought I'd post this at least.

We ate there last night and really loved it. :thumbsup2 We timed dinner to see the sunset and here are some general pictures of the views:

Our drinks - I had a Mango Sangria and DH had some sort of Haupia (coconut) Mojito, I think:

We had two appetizers. I had this one:

Roasted Kamuela Tomato Soup
with a mini Truffled Brie Cheese and Portuguese Sweet Bread “Sandwich”

DH had this one:

Macaroni Au Gratin with Keahole Lobster,
Maitake Mushroom, Fontina-Parmesan Cheese, and Herb-Garlic Crust

We both loved our appetizers! So yummy!!

We split the main meal, which worked out perfect for us:

Grilled Kurobuta Pork Chop with a Ragoût of Hamakua Mushrooms, Pancetta, Cipollini Onion, Confit Tomatoes, Mascarpone-White Polenta, and Herb Salad

Everything was delicious! The meal came with rolls and sea salt butter also. We looked at the dessert menu, but nothing really called out to us, so we skipped that. Our waiter was an interesting character - it seemed like he had his "spiel" memorized - but he was nice enough. He really recommended the seafood special that day and the snapper, but we skipped those. Overall, good experience and I think we got out of there for less than the cost of our dinner at Makahiki earlier in the trip.
