with a child who isn't awesome at everything? My daughter isn't an honor roll student taking AP everything. she isn't at the top of her sports. sometimes she screws up (like motehr like daughter)...

This last one was sort of a big one. I am disappointed, she feels bad. But I can't help but feel like (and I know this isn't the case) she is the only one who screws up. Maybe I just too honest about my faults and the faults of my family?

So can someone help me out here and tell me that I am not the only one who isn't perfect or bore a child that isn't?

On a good note she did take first in both an idividual and team event at her swim meet yesterday and had 4 personal best times.

Your stories are appreciated and I can promise ytou that I will never use them against you in a later post or thread. Thank you in advance.

Nope. DS is very average in school and has no desire in sports.

DD had her first soccer game and DID score the first goal of the game, but she's just the same as the other kids at the game. Half paying attention... Running to the wrong goal lol.

My SIL says her mother always prayed for average children, so it's her fault SIL isn't "exceptional!" My kids are 6 and 3 and I think they are pretty great, but I wouldn't call them perfect, gifted, or anything like that! I have a friend who is pretty obsessed with her kids all being labelled, and got really disappointed that the child she kept calling "profoundly gifted" didn't qualify for the gifted program.

Sent from me.

You are not alone..perfectly average normal kids are everywhere (just not on the DIS :lmao:)

I could tell you all kinds of stories about my oldest but I'd be typing a novel.

I was fine with whatever my kids did as long as they did their best.

My friend's kid is awesome. I don't know how she has the energy to keep up with so much perfection.

(Yes, I am in a snarky mood. Why do you ask?)

I 2 pretty average kids, one very under average (but I still love her ;) ) and one a little above average in school and a little under average when it comes to everyday stuff... she is one of those book smart kids.. heck the other day she couldn't figure out how to open one of those popcorn "bowls" and started crying.. she is 11.

This is gonna get good. popcorn:: Pretty soon someone will come along and say really their kids are just average kids, they just happen to take a full load of AP classes and are the captain of the football team. And just got accepted to Harvard. But really. Just average.

In answer to your question: Yes I have "average" kids in a sea of above average kids in my city. Or so it would seem.

Snarky? Heck, I invented snarky! :lmao:

OP, you are not alone. My kid isnt perfect. He tried out for the volleyball team, didnt make it. Tried out for basketball, didnt make it. I feel so bad for him...but he got over it. Lol. He's good at hockey thou, which is what he plays. Not rep, just a house league. He's a good student, but not gifted by any means. He's just an average kid, and I love it. :lovestruc

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: OMG youre right! :lmao: I can see it now!

No, my oldest is what I would consider willfully average. She is extremely intelligent, just refused to do the work to pull off honor roll grades after puberty hit. So now it is community college for her while she and I watched as all of her friends, and my friends sons and daughters packed up and went off to great adventures at "sleep away" colleges!!!:rotfl::rotfl: (and I must admit I was pretty jealous of a few, especially knowing that she could have done it all if she would have just done her best rather than just the bare minimum to get passing grades)

on the plus side though? I don't have thier GINORMOUS tution bills to worry about!!!:cool1:

DS is only 6 but shaping up to be all around average. I am ok with that. He does play baseball and has some good days and some very poor days. Equals out to just average.

I always wonder if this board attracts people with spectacular children.

My kids are totally average. My oldest drives me nuts b/c he is super smart and can get A's & B's with minimal effort, so he has been putting forth even less effort and getting B's. He is 13 and just hitting that stage where he doesn't want to put anything more into school than necessary.

He has never been a sports superstar. He has tried many - baseball (horrible hitter b/c he closed his eyes and was basically afraid, but AWESOME in the field!), karate (quit after 2 years), football (just quit this year, he was over it and even when he played put in a minimum of work). He has stuck with lacrosse and is good at it as long as he is on defense...that doesn't require a lot of running. HAHAHA

My little guy is 6 1/2 - he does well in school so far, but he's in 1st grade, so let's be honest, it's not that hard yet. He has taken karate and hated it. He did one season of t-ball and didn't like it. Started lacross this past spring, loved it and did well for his age against older kids. He also played tackle football last year - he was the youngest on his team, but the biggest in size. He did well for his age again, but this year he was too heavy for his age group. He is an average kid, with average abilities. Will it change as he ages? maybe. I don't know.

I'm just grateful to have 2 good kids that will at least TRY most things! If they aren't superstars, oh well. ;) I do admit to pushing them to work hard in school though. I would like them to do well and work to THEIR full potential in that area.

During the summer I had DD7 and DD4 involved in a gymnastics class. They were, without a doubt, the most uncoordinated kids there. I might have felt bad for them, but they were having blast doing it, and their cartwheel attempts were so hysterical that I couldn't stop laughing.

I asked my director (work at a private preschool) in all her years of working with children, how many geniuses had she run across, and she said one! That's it-years and years of hundreds of children, and she only encountered one budding Einstein.Figures.

I think this is a "teenage boy" syndrome because I can see my son heading in that direction. I have friends who have kids the same age, and theyre the same way. My DS13 is showing the signs. Lol.

BTW, too funny about your comment re: running. My son hates "running" sports. Thats why he plays hockey! LOL!
