....that thinks this Royal Wedding is a huge waste of $$$$??? I can't be.....my co-workers and I were chatting the other day and we all agreed, what a shame it was. Reports are $35-$50 million.......I realize $$$ is no object whatsoever. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.......

I like it. So what if they spend a fortune.
Well maybe I should ask this. Is it their money they are spending, I hear they are worth a lot of money. If it is theirs, so what, they can if they want to. If it is off the backs of the workers in England, then no they probably shouldn't.

I will be setting my DVR to tape it. I love a good show.

And just because you can, doesn't mean you shouldn't either.

You can say that about anything the avg Joe can't afford. I mean is staying at the GF a waste of money? Staying in a suite on DCL? Having a wedding at WDW instead of going to City Hall?? Buying a new car instead of used. Shopping at Hollister instead of Walmart?? Shopping at Whole Foods instead of ALdis? Buying a turkey sandwich at subway instead of making a pb&j from home?? :confused3

It seems that most of the British people are happy with it. THey want the celebration, and it is boosting their economy.

:thumbsup2 I agree with this. It is boosting their economy so it can help the whole country who is in finacial trouble right now. It gives people a reason to be happy and celebrate so who cares if it's costing so much money. That's the point and the attraction to the average person. It it wasn't what it is then not as many people would be intrested in the coverage of the wedding.

Reports say the royal family is paying for the wedding themselves, but the public is paying for the security. The royals are quite beloved in England, and I think they would feel quite cheated if Kate and Prince William went and had a quiet, private ceremony.

Right, but it's $35-$50 million being pumped into their economy. They get a huge wedding and the country gets a economic shot in the arm, everyone wins.

Besides, the Queen is one of the wealthiest people in the world, what the hell else does she have to spend it all on? :)

I have absolutley no interest whatsoever in the Royal Wedding, but like anything any celebrity does it's all promotion and advertisement for them. 32 million will be a drop in the hat compared to all the publicity, notariety, advertising deals, merchandising, ect that they'll get out of this. Pretty soon every store will be full of commemorative books, ornaments, glasswear, ect...... It's enough to make me want to puke.

Actually the whole thing makes sense. Yes, it's a ton of money into the economy (and money both the queen and the Middletons can afford to spend). Also you have a bunch of tourists all going to London (from around England and all over the world) that will all be spending money.

Think about why people go to England as a tourist attraction - I bet if you made a list of the top 10 things to see many of them would have royal connections - it's a business over there... the monarchy is a major tourist attraction.

I predict William and Kate will be bringing in money via tourism for England for YEARS to come. So yes, it makes economic sense.

I agree with the others. Yes the taxpayers are footing the bill for security but the public is getting a huge boost in tourism and travel from the event.

As for the rest - it is taking money out of the Royal Family's private accounts and pumping it into the British economy. Why get upset over that?

Also I forgot to mention previously the whole event is a big advertisement for Britain. What will Kate be wearing - a gown by a British designer of course. The flowers will be British (no imports), the sites are British of course and it doesn't hurt that a lot of foreign TV reporters will be there covering the whole thing and advertising London in general.

Britain will rake in a lot more than this wedding costs.

I don't mind if they spend lots of money on their wedding.

I'm not interested in it. I'll be ready when it's all said and done so I dont have to hear about it anymore.

But I feel like this about all weddings.

Hope they dont expect all of their guests gifts cover the costs of their reception meal...... ;)

I don't see a problem with it. It's good for England. And as far as I know no one is going into debt over it, unlike what happens with so many people I know who have extravagant weddings.

I wish the couple a long life of happiness together.

The actually asked that donations be made to Diana's charities instead of gifts so the charities will win also.

Op, if you think about it technically most weddings are a huge waste of money. Girls drop thousands of dollars on a dress they will wear for 1 day, throw in flowers, mediocre catered food, favors for guest, band etc and etc. I've known quite a few girls who spent 50K on their wedding and they were solidly middle class. it's not about the dollars and cents.

the royals are just like any other uber rich, did you actually expect them to go down to "city hall"?

My DH would agree with you *not about the $$ he just doesn't care* and he's a Brit ~ born and raised 90 min NE of London - DD and I are excited, I set the DVR to record it at 3am Fri morning.

Honestly, who cares how much they're spending or how they're doing it. it's their day. :thumbsup2 and who's to judge that "it's too much". Perhaps an average wedding might seem over the top to someone who can't do that. it's all relative. If that's the case, then people shouldn't see movies or go to sporting events because actors and athletes might be also viewed as over payed and over indulged. It's a wedding. It's a happy event.

it's going to boost morale, boost the economy and frankly, with what has been in the news lately, it's so nice to actually have a bit of a love story as the head topic. I'm tired of always being dragged down by the news headlines.... it's nice to see that Princess Diana's son has become a wonderful person and chosen a wonderful girl. :lovestruc

I suppose that anyone opposed has the option to just not watch the festivities... me, I've got the DVR set. I can't wait to watch a little love story !!!
