Am I the only one who is annoyed by announcements in Spanish?

Everytime I hear the recordings at rollercoaster stations in English and then Spanish, I wonder what country I live in.

Nope, doesn't bother me. And when we go to Disneyland Paris next year and they announce things in French and then English I won't be annoyed at that either, I'll be grateful.

I have seven words for that: "Por favor mantenganse alejado de las puertas". A trip to WDW is usually one where folks can expect alot of cultural diversity, and I think thats a beautiful thing.

We live in a country where we're allowed to celebrate our individual heritage, histories and cultures. Why would that ever bother me? It's a small world, after all.

Don't feed the troll...popcorn::

Up yours. I'm not a troll. It's a legitimate question. I'm tired of corporations catering to people who live in America but don't want to learn English. It's my only gripe about the Disney corporation.

Are you assuming that all Spanish speakers at WDW live in the U.S. and refuse to learn English? Or...Could they be people who vacation from Spanish speaking countries to spend their tourism dollars in the United States?
Up mine? Think before you post.

Does that mean Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, and McDonalds are tourist destinations? Think before you post.

Your original post was about WDW. Think before you post.

We make announcements in spanish for the same reason we print park maps in 8 or 9 different languages...because we want guests from ALL over the world to come and enjoy the parks.

Now, it would be prohibitive to make the announcements in 8 or 9 languages, but since spanish is spoken by many countries besides Spain, it makes sense to include it in the announcements.

I don't know how you meant the OP to sound, but you came across as very confrontational. I hope that wasn't your intention.

Spanish is not the second most popular language in the world. It's the fourth.

Several American corporations cater to people who live in America but don't want to learn English. It's no different with Disney. Profit seems to be more important than patriotism.

I didn't say it was the second most popular language. I said that several countries use spanish as their official language. There are many companies who cater to people who refuse to learn english and there are many companies who do not. It's a decision that each company is free to make. You then have to decide whether you want to spend your money on a company based on that decision.

Disney is here for EVERYBODY. It would be bad business to make all our guests learn english in order to enjoy the park. We get guests from nearly every country in the world. (possibly even all of them. I'm not privy to that information) It just makes good business sense.

Do you object to the maps in different languages? Do you object to the signs in braile? I'm not attacking you. I'm just curious.

I believe (and if someone has a link to prove, that'd be great) that the number of countries that speak Spanish is much higher than the # of countries that speak Mandarin (which is the #1 language from your link).

I don't necessarily agree with how spanish is used in other places, in other situations- but Disney is meant to be open to everyone. If having announcements on the monorail, etc. in Spanish helps more people to enjoy the magic of Disney, then more power to Disney for providing that. Disney may be based in the US, but the parks aren't about the US. Disney is about the power of dreams, imagination and magic that affect all of us, from all countries.

Actually, I would mind less if ALL languages were announced instead of just catering to Americans and people who live in America but don't want to learn English.
