Am I the only one NOT freaking?

If they don't feel right, I'd go back and get others. There are enough options out there you shouldn't have to settle for something that doesn't feel right. My thing was when I tried them on, they felt ok - a little slippy in the heels, but I knew how to fix that with lacing. It was after I did that and ran a little in them that this issue showed up.

I'm going to start exploring when I get done with the WDW Half. If it means I'm in a shoe that's not my favorite color but it fits me well, so be it. I'm done with trying to get cute shoes (design or color). Give me something that fits.

I did go back twice with them but they definitely felt better than any available alternatives. They feel ok. The thing is (this is going ot be hard to explain) but imagine an elongated egg shape that's a little thinner. The bigger end is the arch support but it feels like instead of stopping with the arch that it tapers all the way across the sole. I don't know if that's how it's supposed to be but it just seem to feel peculiar to me. It might be my inexperience with shoes and running but I was concerned with the amount of arch support I was getting and so far they all seem to be about the same unless I got into a completely different style of shoe than ones for pronation. :confused3

FFigawai: I really do like the side lacing and height of ankle support with the Asics Kayanos so I will definitely try and find the 15s or wait till the Princess and check the expo for the 17s. The weird egg-shape puffy is mostly noticeable while walking. Running my foot pressure compresses it anyways so I don't notice it. I prefer the Asics mostly due to the gel. I had New Balance ones and while they were nice, the store put me in the most horrible type of shoe and I'm nervous to try them again. I can't return the Kayanos now but I also have a pair of Kinetics (I think that's what they're called, they're also asics but for cushioning) and I'm not sure if I'll be keeping them. I bought them mostly to compare with the kayanos to see which suited me better.

I'd switched from my Asics GT-2150s to the new and updated GT-2160s in early December and they seemed to be doing well. Ran my 15K race and they were fine. Then I ran on Christmas and OUCH! The tie area lace eyelets come up so far on my foot it's putting pressure or something on that tendon that runs up from your big toe - the thing that pops up on the inside side of the top of your ankle if you leave your heel on the ground and raise your toes. I *think* I've figured out a solution for Marathon Weekend...but I'm bringing my almost done 2150s with me just in case. I think if the pressure thing is showing up, I'd be better off with more heavily used shoes.

This article saved my first Disney Marathon. My shoes, Kayano 13's at the time were starting to give me hot spots. I mean it really hurt the top of my foot. I read this and changed my lacing for a few weeks. Actually I think I changed it for almost 2 months now that I think about it.

Not sure if it will help, but give it a try.

I now wear 2150's. Dropped down from Kayano's a few years back to the 2130's or 40's (forget) due to the increasing cost of the Kayano's. I just bought 2 pair of the 2150's on sale too - got them at a local big box store - everyone has them on sale. Probably should get a few more pair.

enjoy,
Duane

As was just said, you definitely don't want to pay good money for shoes that don't feel right or don't work right for you. The Kayano-15 and the Kayano-17 have a completely different feel than the Kayano-16. I really love both models as much as I dislike the 16s. If you want to stay with Asics, I'd buy one of those models instead. The 15s are available from several online sources. Asics will have a booth at the expo, as will some other running stores, so you should be able to get the 17s at a discount there. I bought mine for $100 at the expo in San Antonio and am going to stock up this week now that I know the 16s aren't what I was hoping for.

And I am the exact opposite - I hate my 15s - and that's the only one I have 2 pairs of. I didn't realize it until I saw your post last night about the different models being different fit. I was originally fit in Kayano-13s, moved to the 14s and those felt good too. I bet that the reason my arch hurt so bad last year was because I was wearing the 15s So I am assuming I will not like the 17s (not that I have any money for shoes right now :sad2: - have to make due with what I have)

The arch isn't what bothers me about the 16s. It's the way the cushioning feels in the forefoot that I don't like, so maybe the 17s will work for you. I still think the 14s were the best shoes they've made. I'd buy another several pairs of those if I could, but I imagine the gel on a new pair of those would have lost some of its effectiveness by now.

Ok, so my shoes have sent me into a bit of a panic. Taper madness hath set in regarding them!!!

This afternoon I went to my LRS in a moment of panic and explained to the guy my crisis (His initial response to my "I'm having a crisis" of "Oh, I'm sure it's not as bad as you think" changed to "Um...yeah...that's a crisis." (but sympathetically said) when I explained the deal). He said it would really ultimately be up to me - that either running on old, almost used shoes would be about as bad as running on a brand new brand and style in terms of things that *could* go wrong - though he assured me that there was nothing saying something *would* go wrong. He was really great though - he searched through ALL their inventory for any remaining 2150s in a 9, brought out a 9.5 for me to try (way too slippy, even with special lacing), checked the inventory of all their area stores, and called several other (competitor) stores with the thinking that if I HAD to get a new pair, I would be better off with a new pair of the same style. But apparently all the size 9s in NYC are GONE!

So the verdict is... I am taking my old 2150s AND the new 2160s with a different lacing pattern that seemed to work for now (I'm going to try it on my walk at the FRNY fun run tomorrow and see if it keeps working). I will see how they do tomorrow night and maybe the 5K and make a decision as to which I'm wearing after that.

THEN after the race I'll look into different brands. Just by looking at them, Brooks and New Balance seem to get to the tie point at a slightly lower point, so I might start there.

Curiously as soon as I said I had 2160s and started to show where it was putting pressure, he nodded. Apparently I'm not the only one who's having that issue.

And kudos to my salesman for not taking advantage of my shoe-obsessed taper madness to sell me something! :lmao:

Oh, and Duane ~ Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the pressure point is at the top where you tie the laces...but I've tried shifting up a couple of eyelets and doing the "anti-heel slip" thing and so far that seems ok. For now anyway.

Are you referring to the little uplift or puff thing that is around the ball-to-toe area? I found that to be really weird. I'm probably going to still give the new ones a shot due to the lacing (explained below).

I have a similar issue so I know what you're going through and it's really frustrating when most shoes have a design that just lands on it. I used to tie my shoes too tight and have a calcium buildup on the top side of my foot (opposite of the peak of my arch but more centre) and any slight pressure, it's just not managable.

Neither, actually. What bothers me is the way I can feel my forefoot slapping against the ground when I stride. The 16s feel to me like there's not as much cushioning in the forefoot, and the front of the balls of my feet really take a beating. Maybe this is their way of telling me to stride better. ;)

Ok, check that.

NOW I'm in the midst of the mood swings. This morning it's tears and abject terror.

OY!

I am sure that things will level out when you get to the Airport! :) You'll do great! :cheer2:

I was surprised last night because I got home from work and needed a nap for the first time in I don't know how long. I am not feeling sick, just really tired. I woke up surrounded by my Boston Terrier and a few cats. Turns out that they loved that idea I guess! I have gotten past the freaked out stage and moved on to the acceptance stage. Yes, I am going to run the distance I drive one way to work. :yay:

LOL - I am now somewhat in the midst of freaking out but its not about the race its more about getting everything done I need to get done before we leave on Friday morning. I am working up until lunch time tomorrow so that gives me more time since I was originally planning to work the whole day.

Once I am in the truck headed north I will be ok. Just have to make it through the next 2 days!!!

Beth: I'm sending lots of hugs and support! You're going to do great and rock the place! You're an inspiration to me (and I'm sure many others) so just hang in there and know that you have people cheering you all the way!

Beth, you're going to do great. You rocked the 15k... a half is totally in sight. Plus, you'll be at Disney! You're going to have much better weather than those of us running the Lebow ;)

Keep an eye out for shoes at the Expo - maybe you'll get lucky!

Well, I was feeling totally prepared and ready for the marathon but then on Sunday night/Monday morning I came down with a cold. It is almost gone now but I'm a little worried about any lingering effects sticking around for the race in addition to my last week of tapering being completely shot.

Thanks guys! Yeah...I've just buckled in for the roller coaster ride! I warned everyone at school that if I suddenly burst into tears there's a 99% chance it has NOTHING to do with whatever has just happened.

Amy, I'll be sending warm thoughts to everyone doing the Lebow! Kick butt!! :goodvibes
