Am I the only one.....Flame Tree BBQ!

Ok..I hear RAVE reviews all the time! Tried it 2 years ago and thought it was OK...figured I just caught an "off" day. So I went back this year and tried it again and it was worse!! Maybe I am spoiled by dh's ribs or ribs here in general but Flame Tree was awful! The ribs at Sci Fi were 110x better and Sci Fi gets shabby reviews!!

Guess it is all a matter of taste and luck. I like the atmosphere of Flame Tree (have some great memories of us alone with the birds in a quiet environment) but the food was one of the worst we encountered!

Is it just us?

We have always loved the Flame Tree--have eaten there every year since they opened. However, this year, I was disappointed in the ribs. They seemed to have very little meat on them and what there was was very fatty. DH had the pork sandwich which was excellent. That being said, we will probably go again next year and give it another try (unless we are only there for one meal in which case Yak & Yeti wins hands down) as I won't eat pizza at Disney ever. I just may not order the ribs.

We really like Flame Tree but we've only had the pulled pork sandwiches--not the ribs.

I'm with you! The ribs SUCK!! I know that's so harsh, but their tough, seriously fatty...bleah! The food choices in AK are so dismal. :-(

That could be my problem...I have only tried the ribs! MAYBE it is the pulled pork sandwich that is most enjoyed? Last time we kind of caught the end of the day so maybe the food was not as fresh?? Regardless...if you are serving food it should be the "best" it can be no matter if opening or closing of the day. Being in the business for many years I know that no matter the time the food should always be up to par!!

I was just expecting more...honestly I don't go to WDW for the food but I do hope to enjoy my meals. I have had some fabulous meals and some horrible meals so I don't expect too much...it's just when one place gets RAVE reviews all the time it is disappointing when your experience is less than positive.

Heck...I will take the worst meal EVER and be happy if I am eating it in WDW!!! I was just thinking that maybe it was ME????

It is very hard to make real BBQ (low & slow over hardwood) for mass/all day consumption. Flame Tree does a good, not great, job of it.

I agree but both times I dined there they were dry and fatty. I mean REALLY dry and not much flavor. Again...could just be me and being spoiled by my dh that makes fabulous ribs ( and steaks and sauce/meatballs and sausage etc! LOL)

We were there a few weeks ago and I agree. We tried Flame Tree for the first time because of all the great reviews. I had the ribs and I didn't think they were that great.

The Flame Tree Barbeque is one of my favorite counter service restaurants at AK, but I like their chicken. There ribs don't have very much meat and sometimes they are fatty. Their chicken, corn muffins, and onion rings are really good though.

Sorry, I love Flame Tree and would never go back to Sci-Fi. But that's what's great about Disney - something for everyone

I too love Flame Tree - it's one of our favorite counter service, but we go for the chicken. The ribs are OK, but I kinda feel that ribs are a hit and miss item at lots of places.

The time we tried Flame Tree it was awful - we both had the pulled pork sandwich and it was fatty and had some very dry, chewy pieces. It was last year, so they were still offering corn on the cob, and that was so overcooked that it was literally mush. Oh, and that was at 11am - just after opening, so it wasn't like we caught them at a bad time.

We won't eat there again.

I didn't like the ribs there!! Gristly, tough and dry. I was so disappointed when we went, after all the rave reviews I had read!

I think for a counter service....it is good. We eat there sometimes......but I have to say..."it is such a turn off to be circled by ducks/pelican looking birds begging for food and have them literally walk over your feet. It sometimes makes me say "no not eating there this time". I wish they had a better seating area that the birds could not get into.

WELL I am glad it was not just us!!! I went to FT because dh loves ribs and I thought he would enjoy it here....we ate only because we were starving but a lot of it went in the trash. The kids fed the birds the corn bread..that was awful as well!

Oh well...not everything can be perfect!!

I tried the ribs a few years back and didnt like them much. This past trip I had the chicken and that was much better. I will stick with that from now on.
