Am I really crazed? Who else's DH (or DW) doesn't get it?!

When I start talking about all the planning, details, and secrets of Disney, my DH thinks I am nuts. He doesn't really say so out loud, but I can tell he thinks I am a lunatic who just cannot relax. I try to explain that all the planning makes the trip so relaxing, lessens crowds, and adds fun. I know he thinks I have lost it.

Similar experiences? :p

ME! I love my DH but he just does not "get it" about WDW. I was a CM for years and still have pixie dust in my blood. DH is such a stick in the mud at the parks that it really takes away some of the magic for me. :(

And to top it all off - Dh has the SAME birthday as WDW - October 1st! sigh...... I thought after 6 years that he would catch on but not yet!

Right there with you. DH thinks I'm insane! Oh well, I am the planner of the house. He wouldn't know how/when/why to buy toliet paper if it weren't for me.

I'm in the same boat. I know that my DH is secretly excited about our trip but he says I'm overplanning. He doesn't want to watch any of the specials on TV about WDW or look at any of the pictures on the web because he says it'll spoil it. I'm just the opposite, I can't get enough! Oh, well, to each his own. We'll see when he gets there. I do have to admit though, the first time we took our sons to Disneyland one Thanksgiving, he got teary eyed. I'll win him over yet!

DH gave up on me. He know's when I get a Disney trip on the brain, I'm totally consumed with it along with the kids.

I seem to be the underappreciated planner UNTIL we need something, and I am able to locate it. ;)

Last time we went to DW, DH said he had it all covered and I did not bring a map. How hard can it be? Get to I-4, and look for the signs. He had a FIT! He was like, "I cannot believe we left without a map!" And I said, "I know, and I cannot believe there are TWO of us in this car who could have gotten it!" :D

Thankfully, I remembered the Onstar in the car, and we got there just fine.

Mine keeps saying "You are OBSESSED with Disney." But when I explain what I'm trying to figure out - like the benefits of one resort vs another, he gets so confused he says "You just keep working on it." Huh?

I know there are lot of Disney people who plan to the maximum...and that is ok, cuz it works for them... I was never one to do that, I kind of like to do Disney as it comes....just sort of spontaneously...but I do think you are in the majority of people who love to plan for Disney..

My dh feels that I could use a 12-step program!!! Thinks I'm a little obsessive about all this planning. On our last trip, in '01, we went with another family. It was a second trip for everyone except my dh. It was his first. He did admit that all my planning did seem to make a difference but.....! Now, we're going again in Aug., just our family of three. And once again he's calling me a Disney fanatic. But....who does he tell to call his boss's wife and give her some Disney hints???? And who's bosses wife thanks me profusely for all the help and money/time saving tips?? Yep, that''s me...the Disney fanatic who obsessively plans.

I'm kind of middle of the roadish. I plan in my head what I might like to see but have no particular plans about when to see it. The closest I ever came was one trip I took with my DD and her family. I checked out which parks were busy on what days and planned accordingly.

My X never understood my love of WDW and even my grown children sometimes have a look of concern when I talk about the place. Doesn't matter, I have never experienced the feelings I get when I enter the grounds anyplace but Disney.

My Sister, on the other hand, laminates miniature maps of the parks for everyone in her party so that they can carry them around and they won't be damaged by humidity, sweat or spilled liquids. I find that charming. Obsessive, but charming.
  :earseek:

I am very, very fortunate that DH loves Disney (wasn't so until he actually went for the first time on our honeymoon). Although he is not into the planning portion of the trip, he cannot wait to go each year!!! That's all I can ask for... actually I am glad he doesn't like to plan... more for me to do ;)

I also am the obsessed planner. Right now I am begining to plan for a "possible" trip in April '04...our 2 DD are in the HS band & it looks like they might be going to disney then...could they play in MK without ME???!!??

But my DH has learned that my planning does help so he goes along with it.

After about 5 trips now with our kids...I am glad to say that I think I am getting to him. He really enjoys the parks...& even talks of SOMEDAY going with out 'THE KIDS".

I noticed almost every response to this thread is from a female planner junkie. Am I the only male "planner" whose DW doesn't get it? Is it hormonal, and does that mean my hormones are out of whack?

I don't thiink it's hormonal, I think men are just less likely to admit to a Disney "problem";) Actually, I thought my DH thought I was nuts for Disney, until the day he informed me that we couldn't afford to buy a house in Celebration (I myself hadn't gone so far as to price a home in Disney).

Kungaloosh!

My husband of almost 32 years is severely Disney impaired. It's sad, really.

I make all of my trips solo, though, so it isn't that big of a problem :teeth:

Well, I'm of the XY persuasion, and I'm the big Disney planner in the family. However, DW appreciates the results, and now asks for an update every now and then; "Anything new on DIS?"
Keep the faith, and remember this new/old saying; "When you have a PS for CRT while those around you are moaning because they don't, it's because you knew exactly when to call CRO." :p

FYI, not everyone who thinks their Disney-crazed partner is nuts is a DH. Some are DW's! DW often shakes her head at me. She begins to get excited about Disney about sixty days before trip time, and not on an hour-to-hour basis until about two weeks prior. She thinks my year-round planning and scheming is totally, 100% pathelogical.

But hang with these people. She's starting to become obsessed! And she's even started noticing that we somehow don't stand in lines like other people, we pay less than other people, and we do more than other people.

I like to say I'm not Disney-crazed. I'm a Disney professional!

My DH doesn't totally get it, but he does totally appreciate it.

He is the type who doesn't even get excited abot WDW until he parks the car at the TTC!

But once we are there he is totally immersed and loves knowing that he can count on me to lead the way to the shortest line, best dinners, and coolest adventures.

If he hears of anyone planning a WDW vacation, his first reaction is "you've got to talk to my wife before you go"

Glad I am not alone in this!

I would mind it less though if it was appreciated. Most everyone sounds like their DH (or DW) is willing to go along once they're at Disney.

My DH is so stubborn that he barely gives it a chance to see that all this "pathological" planning leads to shorter lines and a better experience overall. (although he complains about all that non-stop,) It's unfortunate, but because he is not willing to follow my lead, I usually have a better time without him!

GAFAW! Your DH is kind. When travel agents, telemarketers, etc. call, or when someone asks about our plan for vacation, she simply rolls her eyes, points at me, and says "you need to speak with Goofy for that info."
