Hi all:

Our trip to WDW is finally materializing. We (DH, me, 2 DDs ages 6 and 9) are leaving on March 24/05 and arriving in the wee early hours of March 25.

I am now compiling a list of all the restaurants we want to go to and want your opinion as to whether we have picked some OK places. (The list can't be too long since we do have a budget, but trying to keep it to under 10.) Here it is, and if I'm missing anything, please feel free to let me know:

1. Restaurant Akershus (just because DH is part Norwegian)
2. Le Cellier (just because we're Canadian and have heard soooo much about that cheese soup!)
3. Chef Mickey's
4. Kona Cafe
5. Rose and Crown
6. Whispering Canyon Cafe
7. Beaches and Cream
8. Boatwright's (because we're staying at POR)

I am hesitant to add Ohana's given that the reviews have been rather mixed. What do you all think??? I wanted to add Garden Grill but have heard that it will be closed till April :(

Also, when is the earliest I can make PSs? Is it 3 months before the trip???

Thanks in advance!!!!

Looks to me like you made really great choices. You can call for priority seatings when you reach the 90 day mark.
You may want to add the 50's Prime Time Cafe at the Disney/MGM Studios. It's a fun place with pretty good food.
Have a great time!

Sounds good! Here are my suggestions...

You might want to consider the Princess Storybook Breakfast at Akershus...my daughters (6 & 5) LOVED it! It's a little easier to get than the one at the castle with Cinderella. More princesses there and it is nice to chat with the folks from Norway.

You don't have a PS for MGM...I would suggest Sci Fi or PrimeTime...many like PrimeTime...it's too close to my real families dinners to be unique for me...we like eating in the cars at SciFi and the burgers were pretty good.

If you like meat, then try 'Ohana's....our children liked the games they played and the atmosphere was nice...but after awhile all the meats start tasting the same...I did it once but I'm not overly chomping at the bit to do it again.

If you decide to do the Princess Storybook breakfast or Cinderella's Royal Table breakfast...definitely get on the phone at the 90 day mark at 6:59am Eastern time...press 1 then 1 again and you should get through. Those are the toughest to make. Also, do a google for PS Calculator and you'll find a site that will print out the dates you can call for each PS. I usually make the Princess PS then wait a week and call in a PS for all the rest...the others I've never had a problem making.

Thanks all for reassuring me! I want to make this a great experience for the family, since I don't know when we'll ever make another trip like this one again. I will add CRT or the Princess Storybook Breakfast to the list because my DDs love the princesses.

lmhall2000: Thanks for letting me know about SciFi at MGM! I have seen pics of kids sitting in those cars and was wondering which place this was. It looks quite neat and I'm sure my DDs will LOVE it!

I LOVED O'hanas! It was one of my favorite places to eat! The atmosphere is great and the food was delicious, IMO. My older son (11) didn't care for the food because he isn't a big meat eater.
On the other hand, I didn't care for Sci-Fi but the kids loved it. It gave me a headache and I didn't like eating in the dark. I probably won't go back there unless the kids really want to go.

I would trade out the Kona Cafe for OHanas. Ohanas has absolutely wonderful food and coconut races and hula hoop "contests" for the DDs. Excellent photo opportunities!
The Kona Cafe is ok, but it isn't the experience that Ohanas is. At least try it once!! Just don't order any appetizers prior to the meal. Believe me, you'll need all the room in the tummy you can get.
And Sci Fi is a must for the kids at that age. My DS is now 17 and DD 15 and they wouldn't hear of not eating there at least once every trip. The atmosphere is so different than anything else at WDW. Also at MGM is Toy Story's Pizza Planet. I don't know what it is about that place, but my kids STILL have to get a lunch there. Never underestimate the power of pizza and arcade games. :cool1:

OOps...forgot one thing. I'd ditch the Rose and Crown. We tried it when our kids were about the same age and they hated it. It's a great pub-like atmosphere for you and DH...somewhere to linger over a few "pints", but for the money, I think the kids would like a burger and fries at America just as well.
Have fun!!

If they're into Winnie the Pooh you might want to consider the Crystal Palace buffet for lunch at the MK - price is reasonable and the characters come around to your table (Pooh, Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger).

Also, if you're at the AK for lunch try the Tusker House - it's decent fare at a decent (Dinsey) price, but be sure to take it outside and eat under the pavilion, it's fun to watch the passerbys and if you check the schedule you'll also get entertained.

I agree with a previous person about the Rose & Crown unless you're timing it for Illuminations.

HAVE A SUPER DUPER TIME - you're kids are going to love whatever you do and their experience will be memorable - P.S. make sure they get pool time.

By the way Boatwright is o.k. food. If you're trying to "entertain" your children you might want to consider taking the boat ride down to DD and eating at the Rainforest Cafe (the food there is o.k. but not fine dining).
When I go, I stick to the quesadilla's they're really good - my DH continues to search for a dish he likes.
Or go ahead eat at Boatwright then take a boat ride to DD and go get dessert at Ghirardellis or Rain Forest - just as fun.
My niece and nephew have loved this - what kid doesn't like a boat ride?
