I am a mother of 4 young girls and I have been extremely ill for the past two years and bedridden a lot of the time. My parents are taking us all to WDW in December and it is my first trip since becoming really ill. I will have an ECV and we are staying on property so I can rest anytime. I am scared that my illness may cause my kids to not have as much fun as usual. Am I being irrational? I feel like i have already messed up their lives enough by being so ill I really want them to have a great vacation and not worry about mommy

Don't worry your kids will have a wonderful time made more so by you being there to share it with them!

They will be fine, as I am sure they are now too  We put so much pressure on ourselves as Mom's :( Go and don't worry about a thing!!! :)

Casey You will have a great time rest when you feel you need to don't wait to long. Maybe you can scedule in daily rest periods so that you have that break. Have fun you will make great memories!

You go.take your time and don't over do.

Teh girls will be much happier having you there with them at the happist
place on earth.

I also say go. Your girls will be happy having you with them.

Go, enjoy seeing your dds at DW. I would schedule rest periods into each day for you so you avoid getting over tired and not be able to enjoy as much.

I'm sure you WILL NOT hinder your dds trip in anyway, they are probably looking forward to seeing you out and enjoying yourself as much as you are looking forward to seeing them enjoy themselves. My dds often surprise me with their compassion.

Hi mommy2allgirls! Before entering the parks make sure you stop by Guest Services and don't forget to ask them for a Guest Assistance Card. I would also suggest scheduling rest period in the middle of the day. You will all enjoy a wonderful vacation and create memories that will last a lifetime. :goodvibes

You say in your post that your parents will be there, so go and have a wonderful time. Rest when you need to and let the grandparents be grandparents and take the kids. Your family is less likely to feel guilty about having fun, if you go too. Watching a parent suffer through illness can be hard on kids. They need to see you happy and having fun. It can make for some wonderful bonding and family memories. Just be sure to get some photos with all of you together at WDW!

Casey,

You have definitely NOT messed up their lives by being ill. Illness isn't something you control. I'm sure your kids will be delighted to be at the World with you.

Definitely rest up as much as you need to. Having an ECV will be a huge help, I'm sure. As much as people go completely commando-crazy in the parks, we have found that it can be super relaxing and healing, as well.

Casey,
I just read some of the posts on your blog and wanted to say what an incredible woman you are, you deserve this trip and some pixiedust in your life. Ok, it may not be easy, but I am 100% sure your girls want you there with them. Its not all about tearing from ride to ride and speeding around, the most magical moments seem to happen when we slow down and find the little things, the details and special times. I have a feeling there will still be many of these this trip.
You are a beautiful person and you have beautiful girls, i wish you all the love and pixiedust for your trip, have a wonderful time and if i bump into you (as our trips overlap:goodvibes) then i will be sure to tell you in person too.
Many hugs to you all:hug:

There IS something about WDW that just makes you feel good. My very first time, I was in the hospital the week before and the doctor told me NOT to go, but to stay at home and rest. I told him to strap me to a wheelchair and attach an IV because I was going no matter what.

When I arrived it was amazing. I felt better and I enjoyed myself. I took it slowly and rested when I could. Oh darn, so you have to sit and eat a Mickey ice cream cone. What a shame.....:lmao:

The point is, go, spend the time with your daughters and just enjoy yourself. Just give your self some time to rest and don't rush around every where.

Have a great time. Christmas is an AWESOME time to go. It is so pretty all decorated.

I would virtually guarantee that if you asked your girls: Would you rather a) have your Mommy there, needing to stop & rest from time to time, but *there* WITH YOU, enjoying this trip, or b) have your Mommy not there so it would be "easier", that they would unanimously say "a)!!!" Go, have a wonderful time, make memories because you can!

Wow, I am in tears reading all of these replies. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. It is so hard being a mom who is ill and you guys made my day. Thank you.

I will go and I will schedule times to go and rest. We have a big group going, like 17 of us, so they will still get to do fun things while I rest. I think I was over analyzing and being irrational so I truly thank all of you for making me feel better.

I agree!!! You will have a wonderful time with your girls!!!

Having been through a lengthy illness over the past year, I totally understand your fear, but one thing I learned is that kids don't care how sick mommy is - they just want to be with you. In fact, having been through this difficulty, they will probably appreciate the Disney experience so much more. Kids are much more resilient than we give them credit for one of the few bright spots of my illness is that I can really see how it did not "ruin my kids lives" as I feared but made them more empathetic and caring. Enjoy the magic!!! It is fantastic that you can go with your parents so that you won't feel pressured to keep up a hectic pace. I went in January in between chemo treatments and I'm amazed how much I noticed that I'd never seen before just because I was unable to keep up my usual manic pace. It gave me a totally new appreciation of Disney. Best wishes and prayers to you!!!

Thank you all for your kind words and support. I did talk to my oldest dd and she said she didn't care how much time I spent in the hotel room just that I was there at the end of the day for her to tell me about her day. I can't tell you all how much better you all made me feel

Casey,

Your kids will have wonderful memories from the trip. They won't focus on how much time you need to rest - they'll look back on the trip and remember all of the little things that make a Disney trip magical!

I've often worried about the same things. I've had a progressive disease for over 15 years and it gets harder each year to travel. When you ask my kids about their childhood, they always talk about how fun it was to go to Disney with mom. Not once have they focused on what I couldn't do ...

If you take care of yourself on the trip, everything will be wonderful!

Have a great time!
