We are doing a character lunch at tusker house for 12:30 p.m. I have a fast pass for safari for 1:05-2:05. I am getting stressed over all the planning. How long is a character lunch. Will we be seated right away? Will I be able to get over to safari for 2 p.m. Should I try and get fp for safari for before the lunch and if so, how much time should I plan for the ride.

So Tusker House can be done in an hour. However, they can be a bit behind in seating some days. I would arrive 20 minutes early for my ADR and tell the server you'd like to pay early as you have FP. You should make it even if it takes a little over an hour as the safari is right outside Tusker.

Agreed. You're going to get a few replies today that tell you to abandon ship because you can never rely on being seated in a reasonable amount of time. While that is true, the advice above would be mine exactly - i.e., show up a little early, ask server for your bill right after you go through the buffet line the first time and then time your actual eating time accordingly. As a buffet, you can get food as quickly or as slowly as you'd like, so you are not at the mercy of the kitchen. Safari just a quick few steps from Tusker House, and if I understand correctly, you get a 15 minute grace period on showing up to a FP late. (Do not rely on my saying this, however, as it is strictly based on seeing some other non-Disney-employee's saying it on these boards a few days ago....hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm or refute the grace period.) But even without a grace period, you should be fine.

I think you will be ok, depending on when you are going. Most of the time you get seated within 30 minutes of your reservation. Anything later is an anomaly and while, yes, it can happen, it isn't the norm. Allowing for an hour to eat, and that is pretty generous, you should be done by 2:00 at the latest. If you miss the FP+ time because you were seated really late, talk to the manager and see if you can get a free pass.

ABANDON SHIP! Just kidding. I couldn't resist. I think you'll be just fine if you follow the tips of the previous posts. We've done this exact timing in the past. TH reservation and FP 90 minutes later. Just make sure you leave TH by 1:55 or so to go over to Safari next door.

We've never been seated anywhere close to on time at TH, usually 30-40 minutes behind our ADR. You can probably still make it, but definitely ask for the check right away, and know that it's possible that you'll miss one or more of the characters. We've not had luck trying to check in early - the last few times we've gone a CM has been asking for the ADR time and not even letting anyone into the check-in line until it was within 5-10 minutes of the ADR. And then it takes 20 minutes just to get through the line up the podium.

It will be close but you can do it if you can say no the third dessert ;)

I wouldn't sweat it. We have always been seated on time and even early at TH and it definitely doesn't take an hour and a half to eat. As others have said, check in early and ask for the check when you sit down. The safari is so close to TH, I really don't think you will be running out of there. If you are still worried, perhaps try to shift the FP+ even 15 to 30 minutes later. I think you will be fine.

Thanks for all the replies. I told him what everyone said and we have decided to do the safari before the lunch since the lunch is a surprise for his girlfriend (who has never been to disney). We just decided it wasn't worth worrying and rushing through the lunch. Thanks again for the help.
