That's the problem. People see it as something that everyone else is doing, so it's accepted as the norm. Thus, it must be ok. It isn't cool to question it or to reject it. If you want to fit in, or win in this case, you follow the herd.
But that isn't what I said. I have repeated said that I think they could have toned the dance down. But when the question came up about how far they would have to go when they were 15 this was my answer. If when they are 15 and the style is very conservative then that is what they will dance.
I have never followed the crowd, I just don't get all worked up over a dance routine. Probably because they were so good at it, that their talent was all I could think about.
I wouldn't let my DD do another cheerleading organization that is here because of all the moves that they did and some of the coaching techniques that I had heard about. I have never conformed, and thank goodness, neither had my DD. If she doesn't want to do it, then there is nothing in the world that will change her mind. I am lucky that way.
