Am I eligable?

I have a dilema. I rented a timeshare from a DVC member back in July for 8 nights instead of the POP century resort because I got a great deal. We are staying the second week in Feb 2011. I have bought only one park ticket and I'm in the process of buying the other 3. I have called Disney reservations who directed me to DVC who directed me back to Disney reservations. Does anyone know if I can get the free dining plan at this point, or am I out of luck because we didn't book a package?

No you cannot get free dining. That is only available to cash guests booking a package through Disney reservations. Points stays do not qualify for special discount packages.

PS - you can however, buy the dining package w/o buying any tickets. The DVC member you rented from would have to add it to your reservation (because Member Services will only speak with members not renters) and as of this time, you pay for it at check-in.

Above is correct - you are not eligible for free dining on this reservation, but you can purchase any of the three dining plans (as long as you have the member you are renting from add the plan to the reservation no later than 48 hours before you arrive.)

You cannot personally get any information regarding this reservation via either Disney CRO or DVC Member Services. You will need to ask the member you are renting from to contact Member Services on your behalf; they will not deal with anyone but the actual member. DVC reservations and CRO (regular reservations) are two different systems, so CRO will not be able to give you any information regarding a DVC reservation.

You have to remember that "free dining" is only free because you are paying so much more for the room. The nice thing about getting the dining plan through DVC is that you can choose exactly which plan you want (if any) and not have to worry about black-out days. I don't know where you are staying, but think of it as staying in a deluxe with the ability to choose any plan that works out best for the dining you choose to do. Depending on what you paid for the rental, what dining plan you choose, and the number of people you have, you may find it cheaper than the "free dining" package.
