Am I doing the right thing?

I am checking flights for our June trip. We were all set to go on Delta for $228 round trip then found out that departure day (Saturday) was the same day as my DD's dance recital (she is in senior company and cannot miss it) so I checked flights for Sunday and the price jumped $150 per ticket . Thank goodness I hadn't booked the tickets yet!

So I checked SW and JetBlue. Of course SW isn't out that far yet and JetBlue is out until June 18 (we are going 15-22). However I checked one way for JB and it was $125. I am thinking of booking it to make sure we have it and then get either SW or JB (whichever is cheaper for the way back. I just don't want to wait and the flight is sold out.

Thoughts?

You're doing the right thing. When fares are released for jetBlue and Southwest, you can comparison shop all airlines for the return flight.

That is what I would do. $125 for the one way seems right in line with where your other flight was.

I'd book the JetBlue fare for the trip down, then book whatever's cheapest for your return when the booking window opens; it's either that or roll the dice that SW will have a decent fare for both ways. I like JetBlue, and you get 1 free suitcase each so it's almost as good at SW, plus you can reserve your seats (unlike SW). We've flown JB many times and never had a problem.

I'd hesitate to use a legacy airline (Delta, US, American, United) so far in advance. If your plans change, you are looking at a $200 change fee per ticket.
