Went to book flights this morning from Jackson, MS to Orlando and they went up $30 overnight making it $670 for two of us to fly down. Hubs has to fly due to his work schedule, but gas each way in my car is only $60. I'd be able to stop and spend the night with family each way. Am I crazy for considering this?

Yep your crazy. How much will a day off work cost hubby if he can take it?

Personally enjoy road trips. Can you leave at night and drive at night all by yourself while hubby sleeps. Then he drives in am. Then take a nap when you get to disney.

Its only 10 hrs of driving and 2 hrs for stopping so 12 hrs

From Mississippi - no, not crazy at all. Come live in Minnesota and the calculation is two twelve hour days in the car each way - if you avoid any traffic delays - then that gets a little crazy.

You are looking at about a 1,400 mile round trip. Current IRS rate for business mileage is 56½¢ per mile which comes to more than the air fare. Even at the 24¢ per mile for medical or moving comes to almost the price of the air fare for one person.

This is a last minute trip that we weren't really planning for when we planned out his vacation days at the beginning of the year, he'll fly in on Friday after work, use a vacation day for Monday and fly back Monday night or the first flight out Tuesday morning. I don't mind the driving, its actually quite enjoyable in a Mini Cooper.

On my pro/con list:
-Parking fees for the nights we stay at the Hilton DTD (split stay/Pop Century our first night)
-Not having to wait for the Magic Express at the airport or check any bags, they can come down with me
-Saving over $200 by not buying my plane ticket

What am I missing?

If I stop and get a flu shot while I'm there, can I claim it as medical mileage? Hahahahaha

Update: CRAZY wins! After thinking and discussing all day, we decided we'll drive and leave right after Hubs gets off work on Friday (fingers crossed its one of those Friday's his boss has something to do so she lets everyone go home early!) That puts us getting to Pop around 2am where we'll get as much sleep as possible before our 8:05 Crystal Palace ressie! He'll fly home first thing Tuesday morning and his return flight was only $110! We'll save over $500 on flights this way! Woohoo!!!
