Am I crazy?

I think that getaway trips with your spouse are a must. I look forward to our trips alone. We left the girls with my parents for the first time when they were 3 years and 16 months. We've gone away for 4 or 5 days almost every year since then. It's been over a year and I didn't think we would manage a trip anytime soon, but DH just found out he gets to go to a conference in San Francisco. It turns out to be our spring break week, so I'm taking the kids to my parents house and then flying out to meet him. Not quite as good as a pure vacation trip, but still nice "no-kids" time.

There are always "what-if's". Enjoy the trip and if something happens, deal with it then.

Sounds like your DD will be in capable hands and you deserve the trip after what you have been through :) That said, you sound like you are really questioning the decision and I would just make sure you think you will be able to enjoy yourself. If you are going to be constantly be wondering and worrying, then it's really not a vacation.

I just had to make a similar decision though the circumstances are a bit different. DH's parents offered us a trip to Bermuda for DH's 30th birthday and with that came babysitting for our 2 yr old DD. At first, I was really excited but then reality set in and I decided at this point, I am not ready to be a plane ride away (DH and I do 3-day weekends a few times a year to a destination about an hour away). In addition, I am pregnant and just felt it was safer for me to be home at this point. Really though the deciding factor for me was, I pictured myself on a chair by the pool and wondered "will I be relaxing or worrying?" I had to be honest and my answer was worrying so I knew it wasn't the right thing for me to do. DD spends tons of time with grandparents and my sister and regularly does overnights so by no means is she clingy but she's still 2 yrs old and that's a huge responsibility for someone else, even if it was a grandparent.
