HI...I"m new to these forums. My hubby wants to go on our vacaiton from probably 8/5-13. I just think the heat will get to me and I won't want to deal with anyone...lmao..I don't like the heat!.....

What do you suggest? We went on a cruise last year and loved it ..and at least you could escape the heat there.

THANKS!

Janet

You will be in the heat some but most attractions are inside and air conditioned,so you will be able to cool off.I say go and have a great time.::yes:: :wave2:

There are LOTS of people who go in the summer and love it... personally, I think they're ALL crazy but i can't handle the heat. I really struggle with enjoying myself with it... even with stopping in at every A/C place and drinking water. But everyone is different, and some people arent bothered at all.

I think Disney does a great job with trying to keep their lines either indoor or in the shade. Unlike places like Six Flags, where you are often standing in the middle of the sun forever. So thats a def plus =)

I went last year from July 27 - August 3. I don't deal well with the heat at all, it literally makes me ill (the only reason I went at that time of year is because I'd never been before and got myself in the mind set of, I want to go now!). I did have fun, even with a travel companion who was less than wonderful  (another side effect of wanting to go immediately - not too much choice in who you go with). Anywho, I'm glad I went, but I don't think I'd ever go at that time of year again, jmo. It was extremely crowded, and we wasted a lot of time looking for places and attractions that were air conditioned just to cool off. Whatever you decide, good luck and have fun :teeth: !

That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, however. I know a family from Chicago that's gone to WDW in August the last four years in row. They like it because they hardly have to pack any clothes. They can go for a week and take only carry on luggage.

We did it two years ago, and probably wouldn't again. It's not that we had a bad time. It's just that it was so much work, and so much more exhausting than going during other times of the year. Every morning was like preparing for battle: "frozen water bottles".... "check", "wet wash cloths in ziploc bags".... "check", "rain ponchos".... "check", "high-energy snacks".... "check". You get the idea. You really have to have a good plan and factor in more and longer breaks.

Yes...you are absolutely "nuts"!!! That being said, the parks are really crowded, so there are lots of other "crazy" people there with you!!

Hope you have a wonderful time!!

DH and I honeymooned there in August. We didn't think the crowds were unbearable. The heat was at times though! The attractions are indoors at most parks, so it wasn't actually that bad. Most of AK attractions are outdoors, so that park was a little tougher. Get a FP for Kali River Rapids for some time in the afternoon and you should be okay.

Have fun!:sunny:

I say "Go For It"...but....wow is it ever hot. We went Sept2-9th and I must honestly say that the heat about did us all in. I can handle some heat but when you can wring your clothes out that gets a little annoying. We spent more money on water than on our resort room...just kidding.

There are places to take a break and get into the AC but it is extremely hot!

Good Luck and have a magical time whenever you go!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hi there,

I'm going in August for the first time also. I talked to a friend of mine who said he goes in mid August because all the Florida kids are back in school and it is not that crowded. He also says the heat is'nt any different than New York in August (not sure how accurate that is). So that being said, August is hot in New York and I deal with that so why couldn't I deal with that in Florida.

Good luck,

Hope we survive the heat.

I went in May last time and I remember toward the end of the week the heat was getting a little intense - so I think I might be in for a shock.

We don't really have much choice - so it is usually July or August (because of kids school/activity schedule, etc.). If we are doing just WDW, like we are this year, we go the last two weeks of August. Crowds are not that bad. One year we went right after our school ended, last week of June, beg. of July - packed, packed. When we do the Magic cruise, we do this first week of July with a few days added at WDW.

Yes it is hot, but be prepared for it, mentally and physically. Don't expect to be at the parks all day. Take breaks in the early afternnon. Hit the water parks and have fun. Have ponchos ready too. When the kids were younger, we went in November, weather was perfect but we need to wait a bit longer now for those choices.

Hello guys! I'm also new on this site even though i've been checking it out for over three years now! Great tips and people, so I decided to join! Anyway, the last two years we have gone to the World during the last two weeks of July. With DH work and DD15 volleyball and DS13 baseball schedules that's the only time for us. The first year we were not really as prepared. The crowds were low (at least to us) considering the time of year and economy. What got us was the heat and our own stupidity. What was we to think to do it commando-style! We thought it would be our only time there since it took us 11 years to make it then! We didn't take the breaks we should have or drank the water we needed. At AK i became so dehydrated i was to the point of passing out! This past year we changed our gameplan. We made sure we each drank one full bottle of water an hour, carried wet washclothes and had those mister-fans! We also just took things in stride and didn't stick to any plans. Go slow and enjoy yourself. We seen and did alot more in '03 than '02 for sure! And for us, the heat may keep others away but that's ok! We never had more than 20 minutes of wait anywhere in the World except of course Fantasmic and Illuminations!! Go and enjoy! Have a drink on us!:wave2:

Personally, I hate the heat but I have gone to WDW the past 3 years in July/Aug. I do what everyone else has been saying and believe me its the best advice. Go to the parks as early as possible, if staying at a Disney resort definitely take advantage of the Early Morning Hour. Be prepared with water bottle and a MUST is the mister fans (you can get them cheap at Walmart or Target, don't forget to get extra batteries), I also take those body wipes, when I get sweaty those things are heaven sent! I always wear weatherproof sandals (Tevas) or watershoes during the day, at night I wear the sneakers. Leave the park at noon for a couple of hours, swim, nap, take a shower or whatever at your resort and come back at 3:00 (if you want to see the parades) or 4:00 at it will be a little cooler, and you will be re-energized. Believe me this plan works. Also do as much research as you can and find out which are the shows/rides that have A/C and keep them in mind when you feel you can't take it and you will be fine. We do take rain ponchos but it gets so hot and humid that an afternoon rain shower is welcomed and we would just walk right into it and cool off, we have a blast doing that! Have fun and have a good trip!!

Just think of the pounds you will sweat off. Costs about as much as a good personal trainer and you will have a lot more fun. Go, enjoy! DW is the best place to be any old time!!

You can always go early before it gets too hot, go back to soak in the resort pool and return later in the day when it is cooler also.

I concur with all of the advice above....I would say spend whatever it takes to stay on site....it is the ONLY way to go in the summer....that way you can do early entry and take breaks.... we have done the late July - early August trips a few times, and have had a great time.

Just plan carefully and take breaks when you need them. The hotel pool and a cool room look like heaven after the heat and crowds...a few years ago we went in August with some friends and stayed at OKW...we were in a bldg right by one of the quiet pools and most days when we got off the bus the 4 kids would sprint for the room and by the time the moms and dads drug themselves into the room the kids were already squealing in the pool!!

A swim and a nap and a Mickey Bar (those become REALLY important in August =) and we were ready for an evening out.

If you aren't morning people, just sleep in, hang out at the pool for a while, have a nice meal mid afternoon at one of the resorts and then hit the parks at 4PM or so and stay until closing...the crowds drop off as does the temp (a little) and rides totally empty out during the evening shows (Spectro, Fantasmic, etc)

My thought about FL in August is... hot is hot. We live in KY and you can fry eggs on the sidewalk here in August...WDW isn't any hotter. I guess if you live high in the Rockies or something it might be traumatic, but for those of us that live in a sauna all summer anyways there isn't much difference.

If your nuts then I along with many other people are nuts as well. I agree with SB in KY that you should stay on site. My DW does not do well in the heat but we would go and have fun anyway. It is vacation so we take our time. When we start getting to hot we leave to go back to our resort and go swimming. Plus it usually storms for a half hour or so every evening in FL. during the afternoon. We then always go back to a park in the evening(usually EPCOT) for the fireworks. This is our favorite time. Once again we take our time, right before the show we get a drink and then watch the fireworks. When the smoke clears and we wipe the big goofy smiles off our faces we then stroll the park and check out the main gift shop. We usually don't leave until 10:30 or so. They aren't in a big hurry to get you out of the park especially if you are in the gift shop. By the time we get to the parking lot it is usually empty. We tried the other way by trying to hurry out but we just ended up hurring up to wait in the parking lot or in lines for trans. Do find out when the last tram leaves MK for the lot.

One piece of advice: start getting used to the heat. We are from MO so it gets plenty hot and humid here and when we go down it really isn't that much of a diff. If you are used to constant air and 72 degrees it will be hard on you when it is 95+ and HUMID

Have fun... I know we will::yes::

Just drink lots of water, eat lots of icecream, and stay inside between 11:30a and 4:00p.

We went in august 2 years ago and swore we wouldn't do it again. However, that was the only time we could go this year! It was very hot and humid!! As long as you don't have a rigorous touring schedule, you should be fine!!! Definitely take breaks!!!
Have fun! ::MinnieMo

We will be there this Aug 1-8

My wife claimed she has never been so hot in her life as she was in august at WDW. But after the 3rd or 4th day she was getting used to the heat and said that it wasn't that bad.

The Wife works and lives in a/c

HINT:
start getting ready for the heat before you go. Try going for a walk in the heat of the day . You can break in your new walking shoes at the same time and get in shape for the miles of walking at WDW.

I didn't think it was any differant than here in Delaware. Where it can be 90-100 degs with 90-100% in humidty. At least in Florida it rained every day about 4pm and cooled off some.
