am I crazy? (driving 12 hours with an almost 1 year old)

Too bad you can't really drive much at night; that's what I was gonna recommend. But, don't worry, it's still totally doable.

We used to drive from Eldersburg to Jacksonville and Eldersburg to Maine when our kids were little. It helped that we took turns driving and took turns sitting in the back seat with the kids.

You can do it. I actually made a trip by myself with my oldest alone when she was 11 months. Of course this was before front air bags, but I just put her in the front seat facing backwards, had a cooler and a bag of toys between the front seats. We "talked" and sang and went through a whole bunch of cheerios! I also brought a ball and every 2 hours, we stopped at a rest stop and played in the grass for a little bit.


If I remember that was around a ten hour trip. You can do it.
